OK, so the obvious answer is its level of usage and voltage passing through it, air flow etc, etc, BUT... Playing Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, my 1060 SC gets upto 67 degrees and the GPU usage is only at around 65%... can someone help me to understand what it is about a game only utilising 65% of the GPU resource making it get this warm? In comparison to say, Project CARS on max settings utilising 99% GPU sits at around 62-63 degrees. Cheers!

All of the above including not having clean wattage (poor PSU) and poor airflow if you going stock fan instead of water cooling.
T hose who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way. Affiliate Code: 3T15O1S07G

What I want to know is what makes the gpu make the high pitch sound when driving high frame rates.

The gpu die itself isn't making the noise. The noise is coming from the inductors on the pcb. Coil whine is simply the vibration of the coil in an inductor as the power passes through it.

How do I ban you. atfrico All of the above including not having clean wattage (poor PSU) and poor airflow if you going stock fan instead of water cooling.
That's a new one. Mine is modest, but not poor: 430W Corsair 80+ semi-modular. Thanks for the answers, but the question pertained more to the reason of their being more heat produced by a game only using 65% GPU resources over a game using 99% resources - logically thinking a game that uses less of the GPU would produce less heat.

Depends on what the loads are, maybe one uses more memory and you are dealing with more heat saturation in the heat sink affecting GPU temps versus the other being light load on the memory but heavy on the GPU. You would need to look at the temps from the available sensors on that card to get a clear picture of where the heat is being generated As to the PSU go to the link below and plug all your components in and see where you stand with your PSU needs https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

Thanks, here are my results, looks like my 430W is well within range even at full throttle - (link won't post because I'm a newbie, was 360W) I was unaware GPUs had more than one sensor, or is it only some? I have the 6GB 1060 iTX SC.

Get GPU-Z click on the sensors tab, you will see a readout from all the temperature sensors that are on that card Or if you want a more in depth view of your entire system - temp and voltage wise get HWiNFO64 https://www.hwinfo.com/download/ Once installed scroll too the bottom for GPU information
