Hot!USPS incompetence

Sold a motherboard last week and the buyer was located in the same state as me (NY), only about 1 hour 30 minutes drive away. Monday 21st of Feb was a holiday, so USPS picked up the parcel early Tuesday morning, 22nd Feb. Shipping 2-Day Priority Mail, so it should have been there Thursday easily considering how close it is, or Friday at the latest. The destination is Newburgh, NY. Here's the tracking - so far:
 
02/22: Pick up Brooklyn, NY. about 9:30am.
02/22: Metro NY Distribution Center. Ok.
02/23: Kearny NJ Distribution Center. Huh?
02/23: Metro NY Distribution Center. Ok.
02/23: Newburgh NY Distribution Center. Yay!
02/23: Newark NJ Distribution Center. Huh??
02/24: Newburgh NY Distribution Center. Yay!
02/26: Nashua NH Distribution Center. Huh???
02/27: Albany NY Distribution Center. Huh????
 
So it's been to 3 different states so far over a period of nearly 6 full days and still trying to find it's way to a place only 1.5 hours drive away from me. No wonder USPS lose money hand over fist with this level of incompetence. I'm also concerned about what sort of condition the motherboard is going to be in by the time it arrives (whenever that may be) after all this traveling.
 
I wonder where it will go next.
 
I'll update with the exciting adventures as they progress.

    It gets really strange for how it works for the shipping since it's like the gather it at a distribution center often in another state and then process it at another before loading it onto a truck. A lot of it is how the pandemic effected shipping since some companies like Amazon take priority over a standard citizen even if they pay for two day shipping it seems.

    This has become the norm for USPS.  In our area, if they even pick up or deliver the mail two days in a row, that's a plus.

    I almost lose my mind when a local delivery company almost lost my Z690 motherboard 2 weeks ago.  It showed "delivered" even with a picture of the box lying over some desk.  It didnt make it home until  a couple of days after the "delivered" status.

    To mail a letter to my neighbor on the same street as me, the letter has to travel to a city 30 minutes away first, then come back to PO one town over before delivered to our neighborhood. I live in a major city. Their system makes no sense.

    There is a way to accomplish this, it’s called hand deliver, and doesn’t require stamps. The alternative is also licensed couriers for official documents.

    It finally was delivered about an hour or so ago! Damn that was a long 2 days...

    guess what.  I sold that TRX40 Threadripper motherboard (for SpareTimePc) on ebay and USPS lost it.  9407808205499124825168
     
    Same story, the buyer only lived two hours from me so I am out the motherboard and the ebay money....  now fighting USPS insurance claim.

    It's spoke and hub logistics. Some companies do it better than others..  Fedex for example, I can mail a package to my neighbor across the street and it will go from CA to Tennessee and back to CA by the next day.  Doesn't sound efficient,  but it actually is the most efficient when you are talking about millions of packages that need to be sorted at lightning speed and put on scheduled plane to their destination.
     
    That said,  USPS is long overdue for a major overhaul and it doesn't operated efficiently at all.  So much is broken from within their system and being a quasi Government run operation, just adds to the bloat of making it a totally inefficient. 
     
    Pension reform, getting rid of General 6 day per week mail delivery,  getting rid of junk mail (or charging MUCH more for it), charging more for regular mail, bigger delivery vehicles,  should be implemented immediately to help fix the system and gain back efficiencies.

    While we all would agree that isn't realistic, USPS notoriously has problems where packages bounce between distribution centers for apparently no reason. He also paid for 2nd day priority mail and it's long been delayed. It's about competence, and how it's lacking in a business that's been doing this since 1775.

    just for the records.. UPS took 1 day to deliver a package within the same state, from Tampa to Miami.

    I believe you can file a claim and get back the cost of postage if it does not arrive in time.
     
    I actually ordered a plant online (priority mail) and they fumbled around for 2 weeks before it got to me dead.
    Filed a claim and they reimbursed me the full shipping cost + the cost of the plant since it was destroyed.

    In my case, the value of the time that would be spent having to deal with USPS to do this would far outweigh the value of the reimbursement itself. I think they count on this much of the time.

    Awhile back I had a package go from China to Alaska, back to China, then to Japan, then to somewhere in the US. Sounds like it had a fun vacation.

    Sold some fans, buyer is located in Michigan, I'm in NYC, so the destination is basically 700 miles west and a little north of me. I printed the shipping label Tuesday and USPS picked up the parcel about 9am Wednesday morning.
     
    Priority Mail, 3-day delivery. Tracking had been confirming delivery date as Saturday 14th May, which is 3 days, which is what I paid for. Awesome.
     
    For unknown reasons, on Friday it ended up in Greenville, SC, which is about 725 miles to the south west of NYC, about the same distance it is from NYC to Michigan, but in the wrong direction. Greenville, SC, is basically 700 miles directly south of where it should be going in Michigan. Basically if you made a giant equilateral triangle with sides of 700 miles each, the parcel took a detour to the wrong point of the triangle, has since left there, and is now... somewhere.
     
    USPS today removed the delivery date - there is no delivery date now, and the location just says "Your package is moving within the USPS network and is on track to be delivered to its final destination." Well that's great. They don't know where it is or when it will get to where it's going, but it's... somewhere, and it will arrive ...some day. Brilliant!
     
    It's also late. AGAIN. 100% fail rate so far this year. Hey, at least they're consistent!
     
    I wonder where it will show up next ..and when.

    I would bet some of it is that the system is old and the workers jobs are secured by the union. So if you reviewed the logistics and find problems it is hard to change things since you can't get rid of the human element and replace it with more efficient machines unless the worker just still comes in to watch the machine do the job they used to do.

    I had issues with USPS too from 2017 - 2019 but they changed the local delivery person and its been perfect since (as far as I know :))

    Ordered a sleeved power reset ext cable from ModDIY since the Z690 Dark mobo pins are somewhat difficult to access once the mobo is installed. Shipping said 2-3 weeks. It's been 4 weeks already. I contacted them again today and they now say it might be up to 3 months because it's coming from Hong Kong and there's no airmail to the US from HK (but when I ordered that's why it was supposed to take 2-3 weeks...). The tracking says it hasn't even left HK yet, it's been sitting with HK Post for 2-3 weeks, so it's looking more like it's lost, but whatever, I'm not counting on ever receiving it. Ordered a ASUS ROG Q connector from EBay instead.

    A close friend is a USPS mail carrier and they are begging people to come work for them.  "Were hiring" stickers on all the trucks and big sign on the local PO.  Never seen that before and can remember the good old days when this was considered a good job, with great benefits.    I feel bad for all the older workers that are just retiring, right when their pensions are crumbling under this inflation.

    USPS my fav excuse they have if they lose package they expect you to come up with empty box. ok yea stupid is stupid does.
