So I got an external hard drive for my XBox 1 S, and realized its usb 2.0 and I need a usb 3.0. Does anyone know if there is a adaptor or anything simple I can do. If not I guess I have a 2TB external for my computer...lol.

Their is none and you do not need one just plug it in.
What is the Make and Model of this Drive?
The Port on your X-Box can be a 2.0 or 3.0 USB Cable.
Now did this new Drive come with a USB 3.1 Cable?
Most Drives come with Both 3.0/2.0 and 3.1/3.1 as shown below
The Big end goes to the X-Box the small End goes to the Drive.
The Cables below the top cable is the one you will need to use.

How about this - converts standard micro USB to USB C - I have purchased and used this items and it works great.

The Xbox One doesn't have USB C and his drive is 2.0 so it wouldn't have a USB-C port on it to begin with. Why are you even posting this to confuse the OP further

Unless I'm misunderstanding, you're recommending he use the top cable, which is USB-C to USB-A. He said his external drive is USB 2.0, which implies it is old - so we're strictly talking about Type A connectors here with a standard micro usb A or B connector on the drive's end. I don't understand why your post received a BR when it's not applicable to his drive and is making assumptions. Until proven otherwise, we have to go with what OP said, which is a USB 2.0 drive which would never come with a Type C cable. I don't want to get personal here, but I believe those who give out BR's seem to play favorites and not always read the content of the post and how it applies to the original question. Just my observation. This isn't targeted at you specifically, but whoever gives these BR's out need to more closely analyze if the post applies to OP's actual question.

To OP - USB means Universal Serial Bus, Universal is the key word. You can plug in a USB 2.0 device into a USB 3.0 port and vice versa. The only difference is transfer speed, which it will use whatever slowest standard is present, in your case USB 2.0 speed. You can use the cable provided with your drive to connect to your Xbox, you don't need anything else.

    (a) I don't own an XBox so I wouldn't know what ports it has - I just (incorrectly) read what the OP wrote and replied in an attempt to help.

    (b) The OP asked "..realized its usb 2.0 and I need a usb 3.0. Does anyone know if there is a adaptor or anything simple I can do." ..so I posted what I did, and only just clicked it's not micro USB and USB C (because I was just using such an adapter so it was fresh in my mind), it's USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.

    (c) There's no adapter that will make an external USB 2.0 drive 'faster' by using a USB 3.0 cable, you need to buy an external drive can deliver USB 3.0 speeds. Fortunately USB 3.0 is backwards compatible so really it doesn't matter whether you use USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 cable in this situation, since the external drive is USB 2.0.. it sounds like the OP is more confused than I am... lol.

    (d) Although the adapter I posted is irrelevant to the OP, it's still a really handy adapter to have. Just sayin'.

I don't mean offense, but before you attempt to help someone who is clearly very confused - look up the hardware specs of the device he is questioning. It takes a few seconds of googling to see the Xbox One has Type A connections only. While yes, it is a good adapter, but it is not exactly what he needs. I'm not a fan of posting irrelevant purchase recommendations to confused people, it leads to frustration when they buy it and realize it doesn't help them. Pretend questions come from your not-so-tech-enthusiast mother, at least, that's how I go about it.   Not implying that OP is a non-tech-enthusiast mother, but you get the idea

@ mike406 Yes You Are Misunderstanding "realized its usb 2.0 and I need a usb 3.0."
The New Drive the OP has is a newer Drive that is USB 3.0 (Assuming)
I have 3 New Drives and of the Three Drives 2 Came with Both of the Cables Below BUT One Only Came With The Bottom Cable.
And That Bottom Cable Will Not Work On An X-Box, at lest not on mine.  (Assuming That the Adaptor Maybe Needed Is For This Cable)
The OP has an older (Assuming USB 2.0) 2TB Drive that is used on his computer that the OP might have to use on the X-Box
The reason for this is because the OP did not really provide enough Information in the First Post to begin with.
This is also not uncommon on this Forum to not post enough information to really help them out.
Their was no need for you to Blast this Thread as you have.

All IMO and all due respect to you mike406 You have Taken and Have Hijacked this Thread And Taken It So Far Off Topic It Is Now Pointless for the OP.
But Then We Are All Assuming In This Thread In The End Are We Not.

I got the 2T external off craigslist...probably first mistake. But I didn’t realize it had to be a usb 3.0 and this one is a 2.0.

You can still use it on your X-Box
That is you can use a USB 2.0 or a USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive.
USB 2.0 Transfer Rate is Slower Than USB 3.0 is all.
Did no cables come with it?

He's saying he realized the drive is usb 2.0...why would it have USB-C if it's 2.0. Answer: it wouldn't - he has stated it's an old drive off of Craigslist and is a 2.0 only drive. USB-C didn't even exist yet when that drive came out.

And no, I'm not implying anything about OP - it's how I tackle support threads in general. It's like how teachers in school tell you to write papers pretending they know nothing about what you're talking about.

The cable it came with should fit into the Xbox just fine. If it doesn't work or detect the drive, then Microsoft specifically is blocking USB 2.0 drives from communicating with the console. This wouldn't be a hardware limitation, but a software limitation imposed by Microsoft. An adapter will not help you here if that is the case. You need to try plugging it in and reporting to us what the outcome is.

the bigger issue is USB 2.0 can't provide the same power as 3.0, you need this if it doesn't have external power.
