UPDATE:  22 October 2021:  https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3487202

TechSpot - Razer releases its RGB face mask for a public beta test

“If you’ve ever wished that your face looked like a gaming PC’s transparent side panel, today’s your chance to make that happen. Sign up for the only face mask to ever need a public beta test, today.

At CES, Razer displayed an RGB-infused N95 face mask that garnered enough attention to compel them to turn it into a real product. It was called Project Hazel at the time, but it’s now the Razer Zephyr.

A zephyr is a westerly wind or a gentle breeze, which is what you’ll feel inside the mask thanks to its active ventilation that whisks heat away.

Another is the overwhelming amount of RGB. It has two large RGB rings with addressable zones that surround the filters and spill light onto your face, illuminating your mouth through the triangular window. The RGB is compatible with Razer Chroma, so you can sync it up to your keyboard or PC’s lightshow.

Vader-style grill below the mouth, which presumably houses the microphone and speaker. Allegedly they’re to help you speak clearly through the mask.

For important health purposes the Zephyr has replaceable N95 filters, and ventilators that need recharging once a day. It comes with a wireless charging case with sterilizing UV lights inside.

You’ll probably save a few hundred dollars by picking one up in the test instead of buying one when they hit the market sometime in Q4.”

If you love RGB on your system, now you can wear it.  Seriously, the last sentence indicates that this may cost a lot when it is available for retail.

Here is the product page: https://www.razer.com/campaigns/road-to-zephyr.

Why do I think that Razer may end up selling a lot of these?  There are going to be a lot of people that will want one just for the novelty, even at $300+.

I think most of the countries are not considering masks with exhaust valves or ventilators as adequate so I guess this will be a problem for them at some point

It's not the worst thing in the world and it doesn't seem that masks are going away anytime soon. So it's a maybe for me as long as the RGB is able to be turned off or customized.

I kind of agree. When you look at the advertisement images of the strap going across the ear instead of over it really makes you wonder if that is how they intend it to be worn which would soon get very uncomfortable or if they realized it's a cash grab and spent no time on the advertisement photo.

I think @Brad_Hawthorne succinctly described the impetus at Razor behind this product release.

    @transdogmifier:  Totally agree.

Good brand PR by having a bunch of people looking like weirdos wearing RGB masks. Razer is willing to throw anything at the wall if it might stick haha

TechSpotUPDATE:  Razer's Zephyr N95 facemask sold out 'within minutes' of going on sale, but were bots to blame?

“What just happened? Razer’s long-in-development facemask, the Razer Zephyr, finally arrived yesterday, along with questions over just how popular the $99 wearable would prove in a time when many places are dropping mask requirements, and the vaccine rollouts continue. It seems the company has little to worry about: it sold out within minutes.

Many people have been watching with interest to see how the Zephyr performs: $99 is no small sum, fewer people are wearing masks these days, and those sporting the sci-fi-looking device will certainly stand out in a crowd. According to Razer, the first wave of the masks sold out in minutes.

‘The demand for the Razer Zephyr has been overwhelming and our first wave is sold out within minutes,' the company tweeted. 'Stay tuned and [we] appreciate your patience as we work hard to restock them as fast as we can. Sign up to be notified when the next batch arrives.’

As with graphics cards, consoles, and a slew of other products, there are questions being raised over exactly how many Zephyr masks were available to buy and what percentage of these were grabbed by bots/scalpers. In the latter case, many responding to the tweet said they tried but failed to secure one of the masks as soon as they went on sale, suggesting the bots got there first.”

My thoughts:  Well, looks like Razer sold every one of these within minutes.  I do not think I can comment on the sociological reasons behind this without getting into trouble.
