I would be happy to find Big Volta for arround 800-900 euro.
Not Titan, 2080. But successor of Ti model, not 1080.

That's my card. I would bought GTX1080Ti, but 2018 I replace only GPU and Monitor and I think decision to wait Volta is smarter even if performance are 30% bigger.
3840x2160 is different than 3440x1440p and I need all power from GPU. But I expect 50-60% stronger successor.
My hope is max graphic details without filters. I would be sad to drop to medium. Noooo MEDIUM Details.

How many of you have phobia from Medium details. I have.
I like and filters, but 4K don't need them. 1920x1080 is necessery.
But 1920x1080 AA x4 is enough power for 2560x1440 AA Off.

Yes if the performance gain ends up being significant in benchmarks I would invest into a new card. I'm running a 1080 currently. However I'm always up for latest card if the price is reasonable.

With the Titan Volta releasing with nearly no information at all, and a dire shortage of all GDDR5, GDDR5x, and GDDR6 just going into production, I doubt we see anything soon. I bet this release will be significantly harder to predict, especially because NVidia was able to launch the Titan Volta almost silently without a ton of hoopla prior to release... there was what, 1 image leaked by the intern showing the Titan with the Nvlink still on the pcb? and then silence...

NVidia seems to be reigning in the leaks, and since there is legitimately no speculation on the next consumer card, I doubt we see anything for a long while.

I thought I read that Titan version was completed already last year and consumer grade was in the works early this year?

Titan wasn’t even a pcb change from the Quadro cards. It was ready because Quadro was already released, and then Nvidia reused a product with minor changes.

As far as consumer cards, about 2-3 months prior to release is when speculations go wild and we start seeing the possibility of what will come. As of today, there is nothing to really talk about except for a shortage of RAM/VRAM.

so people are speculating early 2018 for the volta, and the pro cards are 130% better performance than the pascal chips.

Was there a 30% difference from the 1080 to 1080ti that the new 2080 will come out being better than a ti?  To me that would be the biggest factor in waiting or not.

My thinking may be totally wrong for some reason, but I believe that Nvidia could have launched Volta consumer cards back around September of last year if they had any need to. The lack of competition and supply from AMD let them stretch out the timeline and wait for GDDR6. As to if GDDR6 will make it into the Volta consumer cards or not is still a bit questionable, but looks promising based on recent news from Samsung. As to when Nvidia will decide to finalize the consumer Volta cards is anyone's guess at the moment. With no viable competition for gaming performance and cards flying off the shelf from a 2 year old silicon design there isn't any pressure to release. The same could have been said for the Titan V launch, but that could simply be seen as a cash grab for the only partially tapped deep learning market.

i agree.  By delaying volta, they were able to maximize the sales and inventory clearances of the 1080's and other high end cards.  it was a calculated risk but with the performance numbers coming out about the 56 and the 64's, they knew they had this in the bag.  I think the inventory issues on AMD's side was the final nail in that coffin.  hopefully AMD can bounce back.

Re: Thoughts about Nvidia Volta? 2018/02/02 09:02:06 (permalink)
Nvidia had no real competition when Maxwell launches, then when Pascal Launched. Vega launched long after pascal was out. The Fury x wasn’t really competition like it was supposed to be, and mainly fought the Kepler cards. If Nvidia only launched when it had true competition, the 980ti and the 1080ti would have never been released, as it wasn’t challenged.

That is my thought. Nvidia no longer cares about AMD as competition.

Using my superior brain, I predict new generation Geforce cards will begin around May of this year and it won't be called Volta (they're enterprise level cards). There's a few things that's been announced that points to this.

My thought on this is, it can't come soon enough.
Please Nvidia get the ball rolling on this and roll out some GPUs.
This is getting silly.

Yep, this will be the biggest letdown of the next series.

I think the next series is coming soon. nVidia is trying to get rid of the Pascal stock and then the next series will hit. This is why nVidia is keeping the leaks down, they don't want to get stuck with a bunch of Pascal gpu's and they don't want people to see the higher price until they have no choice but to accept it as Pascal cards will be gone.

Is it a dessert topping, or a floor wax (obscure SNL reference).

Is it a supercomputer-on-a-card or is it a GPU?

Volta, of course, is the Pascal successor. Looks like there will be two distinct market and technology paths. GPUs might have been the bread-and-butter to date, but there is a rapidly growing market (outside of cryptocurrency) for raw computing power for deep learning, etc.  Volta is well-positioned to take advantage of that.

The 2080 is going to launch at $899.99 price point.  And it will be 15-20% faster than the gtx 1080ti.

That's my guess ;)

Sounds about right. BUT performance wise I must raise you tops 30% is my guess. Definitely approaching $1k base cards very soon for the higher end. Nvidia has the market and people will pay it. Nvida is like the Apple of iPhones.

Some on the r/Nvidia forums seem to think it won't be that big of a jump.  For me, its between either the 1080 ti or the new Volta.  Regardless, I'm waiting until its released for the 1080 ti to come down in price a bit at least.
