I'm worried that if they launched any time soon in the current market they would be priced accordingly and thus be way overpriced than under normal circumstances.

I just hope the rumors about splitting future generations into two types , one for gaming and one for mining, are true. This mining crap is just ridiculous. Something has to be done.

I feel like I would be wasting money if I bought a 1080 ti right now. How easily can one sell their 1080 Ti and how much would it depreciate?

Now it sells high. I've seen reports of 1100 used, probably more. It just depends on when the next gen card comes out or when the miners flood the market with all their used ones. When that happens s, prices will plummet.

If you can grab a 1080ti from your local computer shop for around $900 Id still buy it.
 
MSRP on the GTX1080ti FTW3 is only 869.
 
When the GTX2000 Volta cards come out with an MSRP of $1500, you might be able to sell your GTX1080ti for more than you bougt it for, and upgrade to a Volta.
 
That's kind of what I'm planning to do right now. Grabbing a 1080ti for my new build along with an 8700k.

$1500 for Volta? That's messed up. PC gaming will go extinct if things continue like this.
