TLDR: the rtx4090 sucks and is just a matter of time the 12V cable gonna worn out and melt?
Nvidia still keeping their silence

And you must be a leading NASA engineer, right?
Change the dealer.

I am preordering one, if it is that bad and even those native cables melts, whats the point of getting one? to be stucked in another un-ending RMA loop? like with EVGA?

I guarantee NVidia puts this on PCI-SIG and says “we were operating within the specifications”.

I am beginning to wonder if this is transient spikes lasting longer than anticipated causing the heat to build up rather than dissipating. Atx3.0 is supposed to allow for up to 200% transient spikes, if I am not mistaken or remembering incorrectly. That would build up heat on the connection as it would be a weak point in the connector with the smallest contact patch.

Except the 4090 is running much flatter power (less transient) and had at many times, pull less power than a 3090 TI under the same graphics load test .
got to be a few pin sockets out of spec, and this looks to be extremely rare .

After seeing Jayztwocents video I just did this off the bat. (Before all the melting issues)

What is the best cable to get? corsair seems to have pulled the one they had.

So these can run stock with only 3 PCIe power connections? Just checking didn't want to start a new thread for question :)

Yes, card can run with 3 PCIe connectors and this means that it must not draw more than 450W = power limit slider is at 100% max and cannot go more. Basic 4090 models come with 3 cable adapters, those look much better than 4 cable adapters, cables are thick and overall construction of that adapter looks reliable.

The 3090 ti 3 x cable doesn't work with the 4090, it doesn't include the 4 sense pins.

Nobody wrote that 3090 ti cables work with 4090, if you are replying to my post.

Some basic 4090 models have 3 cable adapters (with sense pins of course). Those adapters (3 cables with sense pins) were originally presented in many screenshots and even trailers on youtube (e.g. MSI) and were later reshoot to 4 cable adapters.

looks like the HOF OC Lab edition uses twin 4x8pin to 12VHPWR adapters. 3 power supply territory on LN2

Guys dont take shortcuts on the cable for the 4090. That is the risk of upgrading to the new hardware

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Even custom cables are reporting having problems too now.

All in due time, NVidia will hardlock these cards to 450w maximum through GPU driver updates, to stop the connectors from melting.. they are going to blame PCI-SIG since NVidia is “within specs”. I don’t doubt this in the least. NVidia will never own up to their own issues since they are the ones that pushed this connector.

Just slot the connector all the way in.

It appears that the melting/burned cable issue is mostly user error with a design that doesn't have a good audible click when fully inserted.  Its actually such a tiny number of people with the issue that I'm impressed by the mass hysteria that was caused by a handful of people.

It might be good for people to take a photograph and zoom in to make sure that everything is seated correctly. Sometimes it’s easier to see a flaw when it’s 300% zoomed in over just looking at it with your eyes.

It is more like the room is too dim to see. The light is also blocked by the case.
A flashlight is necessary to check the connectors even with all the other lights turned on.
