So I was playing Horizon Zero Dawn on PC and the game crashes (not uncommon for me for that game) but this time the screen just went black, and the fans ramped up to 100% (usually running at 60%). Card isnt overclocked at all and temps were fine, hovering around 68-70 degrees celsius. Had to reboot my computer and same thing, just black screen then the monitor went into sleep mode. Card still lights up, fans still spin, just no picture. Plugged in the onboard video and did a DDU in safe mode and removed all the drivers. Tried to re-install and got a BSOD in Windows 10 for nvlddmkm.sys  After a few tries got the driers installed but seems to not even be picking up the card...swapped out power cables, tried my other PCIE slot, and put it in another computer with the same result. Again, pretty sure its just done but if anyone has any other things I could try it would be much appreciated. Given the current ridiculous prices for cards, I really wish I could get a bit more mileage out of this one.

To confirm the problem is coming from your card you need to test it in another computer, and test another card in place of yours as well (cross testing).

If your card also isn't working in another computer and another card is working in yours then yeah the problem is coming from your card.

In that case you might try to flash the bios of the card again, either by booting with your card plugged in alongside another working card and use nvflash to flash your card, or use an external USB flasher (cost around 15$, look for keeyees usb flasher on ebay or amazon or such websites).

If that still fails, remove the card cooler, check for any damage or burnt component, oxydation on pci express pins... Clean the card with isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. Reapply thermal paste and try again.

If nothing works then it's a hardware problem. In that case if you have some electronical knowledge you can go on youtube, search for "1080 ti repair", there are a lot of good videos of people explaining how to do a hardware diagnostic of a dead card using a multimeter. If you can't do it yourself you can try to contact one of these video makers, one of them might offer to do it with your card.

If it's a dead component on your card, you can replace it, if it's the GPU then as last resort you can try to heat it with a heatgun to reflow the solder, but even if it works it's usually not a permanent solution and your card might still fail afterward.

I suggest you do the tests quickly, before the 3080ti gets out (release date is planed to be 2nd or 3rd june). If it's a hardware problem then buy a 3080 Ti at release day if you can, otherwise you'll have troubles getting a new card.

    Good luck!

You could also try baking the card in an oven you don’t use for food to see if that might revive it.

Yeah like a previous poster commented, I would try to test it out in another rig. Definitely want to try everything before giving up in this current market.

Test in another PC if it doesn't work.  Cook it in the oven.

Yup, cook it in the oven to melt the solder points.

COOK IT! The same EXACT thing happened with my 1070 Ti FTW2. Black screen, 100% fan, lights up. I tested it in another computer and no change. I then plugged in and unplugged the live 8 pin power connectors (saw sparks), and boom! back alive! From what I've read about similar cases, something is wrong with the power connector on the card. Cooking it might just do the trick. (or you can do what I did, but I'm not sure how safe that is.) I mean this literally just. happened to me a few days ago. See my post on it:

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.
