http://www.guru3d.com/new...yzen-threadripper.html That is one big cooler but if you have to cool down a 32 core Threadripper 2 on air then this is probably what you need although personally I would have added a 2nd fan. Capable of handling thermal loads of up to 320W. An enlarged nickel-plated copper base designed to provide full coverage of the Threadripper IHS. The company didn't reveal pricing.

320W and eight heatpipes, so each pipe can transfer 40W of dissipation, higher than the usual 30W.

Looks like the fan clips on like Noctua fans do, so I bet you could add a second or even third fan if you liked.

TR4 would be better served with a high-end water cooling setup, such as a dual fan model the dual fan water coolers are usually capable of 300W of thermal load you need an EATX chassis to have the room for the larger water coolers too

Agreed. I would only trust AIO or custom water loops for Threadripper cooling.

Unless overclock the need for water cooling on threadripper is vastly over stated. Mine cools perfectly well with the Arctic tr4 cooler. Especially in games where the vast majority of cores are doing nothing it usually keeps my chip below 50c. Even movie editing sees it rarely crest 70.

I would be worried about the stress on the motherboard to support it. It probably would be ok but an AIO or water cooling would really put less stress around the socket. Of course that is just based on what I would think eight heat pipes would weigh.

I know my noctua D15 suggests dismounting it during transport, but if it's a stationary tower in a desk, and it uses a backing plate like mine does, I bet it would be fine.

Wow this thing is a monster. Honestly if I was going TR, I would go with a closed loop at least. Air cooling would not do it justice. And the stress on the socket, as already mentioned, well I would hate to have to buy a new motherboard because of the socket being ripped from it.
