the bigger problem is folks thinking they need to buy this, the folks that can't find washers and buy them online or better yet the folks that try to measure a 1mm washer and realize its not exactly 1mm...
Just remove the socket cover and bolt the heatsink down evenly, its not going to move around inside the socket without the cover, other parts will brake before the CPU slips inside the socket.

Sadly doing that the cpu sticks to the heatsink, if it happens to fall off during removal you are going to have a bad day at some point.

Like I said this will cool down your room at least in my case... as my bow got worse vcore shot through the roof... Auto it was way out of control, setting it manually it ignored my settings in the bios.
This was back in February when the problem really started, the longer it continued the worse it got, the more my room heated up as the vcore was really high, at one point I saw 1.6v and shut it down... Was showing my friend in Asia when I was first trying to figure it out with what is going on. Then I found out about the bowing issue. It eventually idled in the 50c range and 80-90c in gaming, sometimes 100c, benching was scary... here not making it up... My Vcore was going into batsh## crazy territory.

Here is after the bracket was installed after 3 days, my vcore shot back down, it actually didn't go crazy under auto in the bios, and if I manually set it tried that out the past couple days it actually keeps to the settings I put in.

Here is my CPU after after a good two plus weeks of the CPU correction bracket on.

So if someone has the same issue as me with a bowed lid, and their vcore is doing what it wants at crazy levels, this correction bracket will straighten the lid, and over time the temps just keep dropping. With the lower vcore your room will actually cool down.  I do not see the crazy vcore voltages had while the lid bow got worse and worse from February to May. My buddy at moth two is now at 90c and his vcore is rising like mine is at month two. Look at others who complain about crazy high temps that’s normally the case.

After experiencing how good the cpu sticks to the cooler once the Intel LGA mounting bracket is gone with just the Thermalright solution. I would highly advise not just removing the LGA mounting hardware then throwing the cpu on top then putting the cooler on top. Because if that cpu ever happens to fall off that cooling plate of your cooler be it air/water/aio and just so happens to fall into the pins of the board someone is going to have a really bad day and depending on the hardware it could be a very expensive mistake and learning experience... Everyone makes mistakes even someone who has been building pc's for 30 years it can happen. Or just turn on to linus he is always dropping stuff...

It's a design flaw you have a number of options you could do what you suggested and if you screw up it could potentially end very badly in catastrophic damage. You could try bending the 3 metal tabs on the intel designed LGA 1700 mounting hardware, but if you get it wrong it could be bad. You can get the 1mm m4 washers but if you want the best result they need to both be exactly 1mm and they both need to be perfect on one side yet even an imperfection on the side you put up can affect your temps making it more than 1mm. You get a lid correction bracket they work this is the best solution and if your vcore is going crazy because of the lid bow and pressure this will take care of it, the worst that can happen is if you tighten the correction bracket down a little too much pc will not boot, loosen the bracket on all four screws it will boot. Or you just tell yourself you do not need it, over time your cpu's lid gets more bowed, eventually the silicon the chip is on may even bow, temps and performance will go down the toilet. Your room/office may heat up more as a result if the bow forced voltages all over the place into a higher territory than they should ever get at stock or at stock with turbo enabled.

Knowing now the full extent of the CPU bowing issue I would get the bracket and not chance the CPU falling off during a heatsink removal like donta1979 mentioned. It's not like the bracket is expensive.

Lay the PC on its side and give the heat sink a small twist before pulling the heatsink off and that will never happen.

You will eventually make a mistake. We all do at some point. As for AMD owners they bend pins there is enough post of proof of that happening on the internet. Even some Intel owners dropping the cpu on the pins. So just removing the lga bracket on Intel and just plopping a cooler on top that is rare. With just what we have seen with AMD CPU’s sticking to a cooler that has no real wiggle room to break the suction contact between lid and cooler plate, doing what you suggested may bite some people at some point because you cannot give a good twist, you have one option on a lot of coolers from air to an AIO and that is straight up. Like I said, it only takes once for an expensive learning experience to happen. Is it worth the risk when a cheap solution exist? I would say no.

Spend the 5-20 something bucks on the bracket whatever band you choose, call it a day with one less thing to worry about during maintenance line those of us who can only pull the cooling solution straight up no giving it a good twist. You resolved the bow while your insane temps drop if you are one of the unlucky that have vcore going full ham.

If he used the same place as I did or the vendor is in China, it takes about 2-3 weeks a little more than three to be honest to total to get out of China to the US anyways, in the UK it takes about a week for some reason it gets out of China faster, but it's their customs that hold it up as I am told by my friends in the UK. One has been waiting a week so far for it to get though customs.

If you are going to buy the Ferrari of CPUs, are you going to ask for cheap rims and hubcaps or you going to get the best wheels possible?

While $35 does seem a little expensive for this contact frame, it is worth it IMO to protect your investment, and get the best performance.

Ordered the Newegg one on 05/29/2022. It has a tracking number, but tracking says it hasn't been received by the shipper yet, just shows 'label created'. Newegg said 2-3 weeks when I ordered it, however I ordered a cable from MODDIY back on 5/10/2022 which said 2-3 weeks but still hasn't left Hong Kong, and when I inquired about it recently, they said it could be 2-3 months because of covid lockdown delays, so I'm wondering if the same thing will happen with the Thermalright frame from China.

Because of this, I ordered one on EBay last night which ships from USA (link) ..they say it is a Thermalright frame, but it doesn't have the "Intel 12th" written on the bottom like the legit Thermalright frames do, so I suspect it is counterfeit - I'll have a close look at it when it arrives (due ~Thursday next week).

They said they shipped a bunch out to Titan a few weeks back.   I don't know if that batch landed and they sold out quick or if it is still in transit.  Either way i'm sure they will be back in stock soon.

During the initial release on the market they sold out fast in the EU… and have not been up for sale again since.

Although Titanrig has it listed on their website (link), it has been out of stock since I first heard about them. I'm registered for notification there, so if it had been in stock recently, I would have heard about it (or should have).

Yeah I have not heard or have seen them in stock here in the US. Believe Titan rig is like out of Tx right? Only place I saw them for sale on release day was Amazon UK for a short time then poof… once sold out have not seen anywhere else.
From my friend in the UK that held back and is now regretting it.

Quick update. The one I ordered through Newegg on 05/29/2022 (which appeared to be legit from Thermalright), is still bouncing around China, the most recent tracking update being yesterday which shows it going through 11 different locations in China over the last 2 weeks. I don't think it will be arriving any time soon.

The one I ordered from EBay just arrived today. It's legit - it has the 'Intel12th' on the frame, and the box has a Thermalright authentication sticker on it with a scratch off part revealing a code, and the code authenticates at http://www.thermalright.com/support/ - really good idea having that.

I have too much on my plate this weekend and coming week, hopefully next weekend I can rebuild with it.

A cable I ordered from ModDIY on 04/22 is still sitting in Hong Kong.. over 7 weeks since I ordered it.

Yup.

Have you folks seen this one from Amify? It looks much cleaner than the Thermalright one and sold by the same people on Newegg.

6Q6CPFHPBPCU691 is a discount code anyone can use.

I would still go with the thermalright one, at least they offer some form of support. Here is this one without the TIM same seller and it's only a few cents more.

I ordered one from EBay (ships from US - seller eternityseller-003) and one from Newegg (ships from China - seller Amify). The EBay one arrived in about 4-5 days, the Newegg one was 2-3 weeks. They both have a Thermalright sticker with a scratch off serial number which you check at Thermalright.com for authenticity (link). They both are legit. The one from EBay included tim, the one from Newegg did not (opposite of what I expected). The tim is Thermalright TF7. Other than the tim, they appear to be identical, including the packaging.

@B0baganoosh - are you going ahead with the Z690 + 12900 build? If so, I can send you one of these frames since I don't need both.

There are some for the western market and of course the Asia market that hit the market first, now the US market ones are funneling in. Originally you got the one from the Asian market off of AliExpress the week they hit. Sent pictures of mine along with the installation & registration pamphlet, TIM, and box to Thermalright it is legit. It's just not the one that was for the western market with the authenticity scratch serial on it they have now had to put on for the very reasons you stated knock offs. Yeah now since we are now seeing others, a ton of different knock offs ugh. This is a really hot item for a 12th gen owner that wants to fix intel's goof themselves easily. The TIM and no TIM some of the first batches from Asia came with the TIM, then something happened with some I guess transportation issue of TIM with customs and they had to be shipped without it. Then we are starting to see the ones with TIM again.

As posted above in a post update. Here is after a couple weeks and some change of the correction bracket being installed. Believe my lid is good now or at least as good as its going to get after being bowed badly for four months.

Can you tell me where you picked one up? I am having trouble finding the ThermalRight and ThermalGrizzly ones online, that arent cheap knock offs.

Also amazon and newegg have the legit ones I do believe, so do some ebay sellers based in the USA.

I'm assuming you're in the US.

If you order through Newegg (link), you're looking at 2-3 weeks. The Thermalright one I got there was legit.

You can purchase off EBay and have it in 3-4 days, and the buyer I got it from sent a legit Thermalright product, not a knockoff (they have an authentication sticker with a scratch off code that you can verify on the Thermalright web site). Seller was eternityseller-003 and here's the link. That's probably your best bet, plus they have a variety of colors.

If you want the more expensive DerBauer / Thermal Grizzly one (triple the price), the only place I'm aware of in US that has had them recently is TitanRig (link).. currently out of stock again, but you can register on that page to be notified when they are back in stock.

I've never used AliExpress so I can't comment on that.
