Crypto investing = high risk and high reward..  don't gamble  with money you can't afford to lose.

It should tank because nothing is backing it. Even thou the USD is no longer backed by gold it could be again. Crypto is backed by people using hardware and electricity. Just my feelings on it, I know top's want us all on one currency but than cheap labor would be difficult to come by so... the world is not ready for one currency at this current time.

Also, those poor souls who forget their passwords & those who take large portions to cash you out. I really do not see the worth of crypto. Nothing will ever beat bartering.

The crash does not bring more cards to the market.

Passwords?  You are talking about the public / private key pair?  It's not really a password, is it?  How do you suppose that someone will "cash you out"?  Figuring out the public / private key pair to steal cryptocurrency takes longer than the heat death of the universe at present.  The only people stealing cryptocurrency are scumbags hanging around exchanges (usually inside jobs).  Don't keep cryptocurrency on an exchange.  Ever.  An account on an exchange is someone else's account; you are just made to believe that you own it.

It's basically the same as stock market, except the value is more random and less based on actual environmental factors. And it's more accessible for techies I guess. However, you probably should leave investing to high-risk money players.

I used to mine ETH a few years ago. Wish I had kept all the coins though.

A lot of people out complaining about bills and stuff during a pandemic will turn around and talk about how they're pumping up their crypto wallet

I don’t think I’d want a card that’s been running at load since it’s release, probably just bellow a throttling temperature. Keep this in mind when you buy used from miners. They probably have about 2-3 years worth of wear from being poorly treated and maintained.

Afaik miners actually underclock their cards, but the cooler on it could be worn down.
Edit:Could be undervolting instead of underclocking, either way I don't think they stress the GPU as much as gaming all that time would.

Just been reading about the "Crypto Crash", of the last few days.

Is this a sign that we may see what occurred the last time Crypto crashed? Suddenly the demand for cards will tank, and eBay will be flooded with used GPU's?

Interesting to say the least, still massive Silicone shortage and manufacturing constraints, but will the personal computer/gaming enthusiast start to see more access to GPU's?

There are cryptominers selling their GPU stock on Reddit, but still for scalped prices.

Exactly, that's what I saw, like 10% down but still extremely high. Can we expect some impact from this at all?

The price is artificially high for sure, but not sure that this is the event which brings everything crashing back to normal.

crypto is a way to gamble with a higher chance of profit (during elon musk phase), however now its useless in my opinion. I haven't touched it since, since before you put money in, the next day it doubled, you took it out, now you have to know when to put in and out.

Re: The "Crypto Crash" of the last few days.... 2021/06/08 06:37:28 (permalink)
I don't believe for a second that a crash will be big enough or the low hash rate cards will be detrimental enough to stop people buying GPU's for mining. The first real turn in the market will happen when Ethereum moves to proof of stake. Once that takes hold (if it takes hold and it could take a few weeks/months) it could lead to a flood of second hand GPU's on the market which could take out scalpers. That would mean there would be more "fresh" cards for anyone who wants one just to game. But that's a lot of could's over a long timeframe.

Until you are able to casually buy a PS5, there is going to be issues with casually buying a GPU

Would you want a mining card though?

If properly cooled and not over voted a mining cards is no worse off then a gaming card. The constant load is far less stressful  then a changing load with a high on off count. That is so long as temps are kept in spec and the card is not chocked full of dust. Same could be said or F@H cards to0.
And didn't bitcoin just drop 7-10%? that is hardly a crash, just bad day on the market. A crash tends to be over 25-50%.

Should we even care about bitcoin going down? Bitcoin is no longer mined on gpus, right?

I think you can still mine it on both gpu and cpu, but I don't thing its worth it tbh, at lest not when I lost looked.

Crypto prices are just Tubthumping.  They fall, they rise.  Like it or not, crypto is here to stay methinks.

It seems that way, the question is if some other random cryptocurrency will pop up and require gpus for mining. If that happens, we (gamers) are basically doomed

Agreed,...I got nervous about Chia and didn't want to face the same issue with storage as I am with a GPU for my first ever build, so those are the only parts I've bought so far,..two SSDs.  I'm holding off for a GPU before spending on other parts in case those are obsolete by the time I get a GPU! :)

Crypto can't go away fast enough.

It is energy intensive and is primarily used to launder money and sell drugs.
