I tried ASUS over ten years ago and had a terrible experience with their hardware and customer support. Never again.

Due to the similar bad experiences with ASUS I stayed with EVGA motherboards after EVGA introduced their first motherboard.

Maybe we can do him a good favor and each person pitch in $5 for him and he could pick up a board off the B stock so we can brand him as an EVGA customer? Any chance the EVGA bucks can be used on b stock items?

Evga bucks can indeed be used on BStock, but the 1 yesr warranty may not be the best option. A full warranty would definitely be more suitable.

I do appreciate the feedback and replies folks have given.

I want to stress out that I am not here looking for any type of community get together projects to send me a motherboard, or anything of that nature. Please know this............

I only came here to share my story so others can actually SEE the evidence and not just hear about stories like this.

I have a friend here on the forums who is hooking me up with another 2011 board that we talked about months ago, sadly it is an Asus Rive board lol.

I dont overclock or do anything fancy with my personal setup. I just want maximum performance out of the box. I will be on the lookout for a replacement to this board though.

My must haves are 3 way sli (may get 3x 980 SC's from work), multiple (4+?) sata 3 ports for hard drives, really good onboard audio, good support system (good evga boards?) etc. Dont need those overclocking bells and whistles, it must also support a 4930k cpu.

I feel for you. Is the main reason I buy from Microcenter. They have a excellent return policy. And you can buy Insurance from them. I have been waiting for the new release of the X-99 EVGA board for 4 months. Thought about buying Asus but due to all of the reveiws and a friend having to deal with a bad Asus motherboard (RMA) decided just to wait it out. Good Luck.

Honestly purchasing from Asus, you're just putting yourself between a rock and hard-plate, regardless of those who say they make good products, they're not worth it. I don't even want to know the loops to go through to get a replacement for a monitor...

LOL, it's "between a rock and hard place", not hard-plate.

With ASUS products when something goes wrong, seriously for the amount of frustration and time you're likely to spend attempting to get it rectified, and if you think in terms of the hourly rate you're paid for work, it's probably cheaper and infinitely more satisfying to just accept you've lost your money and buy an EVGA product, and then take a big dump on the ASUS product and ship it off to their headquarters attn to their CEO.

You nearly described my build here.  I have a Dark, 4930K, 3x 980's, lots of storage, and a sound card.  Sound quality onboard is good, but nothing ground breaking to be honest, it is Realtek Audio.  The reason I run a sound card is that I have an older 4.1 audio system and the Realtek doesn't balance the sound to the satellites very well.  For 2.1 or 5.1 it is fine, just my old speakers were really nice and I didn't want to buy new speakers when a 30$ sound card will do the trick.  Otherwise it is a great board, and for an X79 it was one of the best out there.

My last rig had an ASUS z97 pro that fortunately worked flawlessly. But after reading a lot of horror stories like this, it is why I went to EVGA for nearly half of my current build. Only thing I didn't get was their RAM which I didn't know even existed before. It is the peace of mind that you know you'll be taken care of that makes EVGA a truly remarkable company.

stalinx20You said "the owner"... I feel that you should inform the owner that he needs to switch to EVGA and explain why. Regardless of certain people claiming that Asus has "better motherboards", in the long run, it's not worth it. EVGA has everything anyone needs to get equally compensated for what it is they really need, if not better. I'm not trying to talk like a fan-boy, it's only reality of the nature that EVGA has better technical support. When you know a company has good support, it's a piece of mind you can take home with you.

100% this. I have never had as good of customer or technical support ever than with EVGA. It was actually a pleasure to speak with EVGA support on the phone which is something I cannot say about many other companies.

I would never say that ASUS (or several others) does not make good boards, in fact they have some very nice products, love my ASUS monitor.  Motherboards are a rough industry and very competitive, so the way we stand out in the crowd of other really nice motherboards is customer service. We make a point to have the best trained, and most courteous customer service staff in the industry.  Nobody's perfect, but we do our best.
It's as though some companies (I have had my fair share of experience with warranty support with a variety of products) forget that sometimes, crap just happens and it's not anyone's fault, it just is what it is.  We do get it, and we do our best to help.  Even when you are out of warranty, if you have a 2 year warranty mobo from 2009, you are out of warranty, BUT, it is still an EVGA product, and you are still a customer, we will help you to get it up and running if possible, even if it is beyond the point of being replaced.

IMHO, a good product is only half of why I would recommend a company, the other half is how a problem is resolved if there is a problem.

Fixed your typo . However, Please do keep it up, because it is working with CSR. And I'm sure most would agree that it's one reason why people will continue to shop at EVGA for that reason. It's something that a lot of people look at, and when they know they have that in their hands, it's a "peace of mind" for them.

The only company as good as EVGA on the CS side is Mushkin. I called for out of production disco'd RAM and I got transferred to a tech. They had no remaining stock so he went in the back and somehow came up with something that worked for me.

It is things like this that stick in your memory and make you come back for good treatment.

Corsair 650D   -  i5 3570K @ 4.6GHz  -  Corsair H80i  -  MSI Z77 M-Power  -  16GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator Platinum

My build may end up identical to yours. I am in the process of possibly taking 3x 980 SC's from my work. Otherwise I use Logitech G930 headphones. I will possibly have a pair of Sennheiser headphones to replace my logitechs though.

ARMYguy
Sadly Asus makes the best motherboards by far, so there really isn't a choice for me to not purchase them. Luckily, i have never ever had to return a single Asus board, been using them since the Pentium era. Pretty amazing track record, that.

I guess its a good thing i never had to use the return policy....

Correction. Asus makes most motherboards in the world. Most doesn't equal best.

You must be the probably the luckiest guy in the world if you have such track record with Asus. Have you tried playing lottery? Just hope your luck won't run out. ;)

I raise my hand high. Asus is biggest manufacturer of total rubbish - most of the time. Never again. Like I said many times the only Asus problem free item I've ever owned was P2 Slot-1 motherboard P2L97 which worked well until it died loooong after warranty period. And that's why I always start considering motherboards from EVGA. For VGAs I don't even bother with others.

Just wanted to give a brief update.

I did reach out to the CSR who posts on NewEgg, he seems rather useless. Cant receive my emails in entirety, requests me to send him like 1 paragraph emails at a time and takes a week between replies, gave up on him.

Yesterday I have received the 2nd motherboard from Asus. Alas, a dead board as well. They keep sending boards with original bios that dont recognize my cpu without using their "bios conversion" utility, sadly the boards they have sent crash while trying to do it. (Stick a usb drive with the file, press the bios button on the back for 3 seconds and let it do its thing.) Both boards were useless on arrival. Ive asked them to send a board with a preinstalled Bios version that supports the 4930k cpu. Guess they cant fingure that out, or simply dont care to. Starting the 4th RMA now and will be about 2.5 weeks before I get the next replacement. (they require receipt of the board, checked in verify its working, close out the RMA, issue a new RMA, place a new authorization on my credit card, ship out board) Just horrible, I just dont see how any company could treat customers like this and still have a base..

Forgot about the entire 'social media' thing....  Unbelievably, posting negative issues on a companys' Facebook page or Google+ page can get results more than one would think.

Shows what little you know.  If a company cares about it's image, they will reach out to that customer to help them. That is what he wants after all.  Using social media can be a powerful tool to get a company to do the right thing.

Update
I misread what STEVE was saying.  For some reason thought he said to forget social media.

Sorry STEVE

The problem with that premise is they can delete anything they don't want on their social media channel.

I thought I saw a few peeps selling them on the hot deals page. you never know.

And not only that, perhaps an FTW may be worthwhile too, or even a classified.

If none of that is available...

As silly as this sounds, you could try an actual Intel (brand) x79 board. Who knows they just might have better support than what Asus is giving you. I have seen some on sale a few months ago on Amazon. Prices may have gone down, but I don't know if they are still available.

I don't know how old this thread is, but I stumble upon this when I was looking for Asus bad experience on google.
If this thread was while ago I will be able to add some of my experience to the pot  and to update this thread, which means that to date Asus have not change as far is their bad support, this is for next potential customer who is wondering whether this reviews that all over are legit at all.

I've been Asus customer for about 2 decades I have few of their high-end M/B e.g.  Rampage 4 black, some network adopters, high-end routers, 10GB switches and now I got x99-E WS 10G board.
Right from get go the board had issues with Sata ports, turned out to be bad controller. Btw. this was my first ever RMA with them.
So I did advanced RMA and I was told that new board would be shipped within 2-5 days..pffff week goes by nothing, everyday on the phone and several emails  and  still nothing.

Guess what? at this point I really don't care I'm so fed up with them that I will scrap the board and never ever give them my business again.
The thing is, my wife have office with several departments that need new workstations and I was going to get between 4-6 more of this boards which  = 7K, I'm just glad to see exactly what Asus is all about before I invested ton of money with company that doesn't care.

Horrible experience

To you guys who had more than 1 brand of M/B.. what brand is decent as far is durability, functionality and customer support, be unbiased.
