Need a workstation that can be taken anywhere? Media Station's a-XP Portable Threadripper Workstation may be the PC for you, offering buyers AMD's latest Ryzen Threadripper offerings in a compact briefcase form factor. While this unit is far from what today's consumers would call a laptop, the Media Workstations a-XP casts out minds back to the portable PCs of old. This system measures in at 13.63 x 16.51 x 7.26 inches and weighs 23-30 lbs (10.50-13.6 Kg) and promises users extreme levels of system performance.

With support for processors as powerful as AMD's 64-core Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, and graphics processors like Nvidia's RTX 2080 Ti, Quadro RTX 8000 or Tesla V100, this system can have the trappings of an incredibly powerful workstation. Sadly, Media Workstations does not list the specifications of the display that's shipped with this workstation, and the motherboard specifications of this system may be incorrectly listed. The motherboard within this system is ASRock's X399M Taichi, a motherboard that's supposed to be incompatible with AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series processors. Perhaps specific OEM exclusive BIOS updates have enabled 3rd Generation Threadripper support on the X399M Taichi.

With this systems' stock configuration, users will get a Ryzen Threadripper 3960X, 32GB of 3200MHz system memory, a Samsung 970 EVO + 250GB SSD and an Nvidia RTX 2060 Super graphics card. This system configuration costs $7,997, with prices skyrocketing as customers opt for more and more powerful CPUs, SSDs and CPUs. I guess that's what you should expect from a James Bond-style PC.

So if you want a powerful Threadripper portable workstation prices seems to start at about 8000 dollars.

Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X,  Corsair MP600 M.2, 64GB Corsair RGB Dominator,  ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero,  Corsair 1000D, EVGA RTX 2070 FTW 3

    $7000 $8000 starting price for that throwback? They are mad. With a 3960x and a 2060 Super, it should cost half that, with still a pretty large profit margin.

    Reminds me of the first few generations of Compaq portables, albeit with the benefit of thin LCDs

    😮😳 Wonder if the briefcase can play Crysis at full settings🤔

    Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags!
     The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. When you abuse it, it reverses on you and it hurts you.The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

    I first thought that was a rugged system for outdoors or construction sites.  That would be cool if it was for outdoor environments for whatever useful reason.

    I love the idea, but I wonder how they ruggedized those PCIe slots and the CPU cooler....  There are companies out there that make portable cases and strap systems geared toward LAN events. Would offer everything except the screen and any "ruggedization" this thing offers.

    very odd, not hardened ... good luck if you give that to the baggage handlers ... OK to hand carry; but why this 23-30 lbs version ?

    Makes no sense whatsoever. I saw this yesterday online and cannot, for the life of me, understand a use-case.

    You cannot carry that thing on a plane. And even with its bulky size it *still* isn’t enough to compete with a full-horse, water-cooled. multi-gpu workstation.

    A 17” laptop / workstation is about as big as makes sense to regularly take from point “A” to point “B” - IMHO... anything more powerful doesn’t make sense as a “portable”

    If they want to be taken seriously, they would of partnered up with Pelican for the case. That case doesn't look "take everywhere".

    Don't tell them that..now it will be $20K!  {probably charging $5000 for the current case/LCD}

    Pelican is the apple when it comes to cases.  It's crazy overpriced for a piece of plastic while being well built.  I have one but still.

    Is that really its weight?? That's light for the specs, I've owned steel computer cases that weighed a smidge over 30lbs empty. For a system to be truly "ruggedized" it would need to have over-engineered cooling to handle outdoor temps and direct sunlight, so that would contribute toward the weight.
