I know this is a hot well-known topic, but I'd like to know if there's anything I can do.

So far the info I collected:

- The 3rd fan is managed by a separate MCU, something you notice immediately since no software other than X1 Precision can detect it. Besides, if you unlink the fans management, you see the 3rd one spins on its own at a different speed.

- The firmware or the MCU aren't able to control the 3rd fan properly, so it generates a very annoying rattle noise. You can see that by looking at the RPM chart of the fan, where instead of being flat, it's constantly trembling:

I tried to fix the problem by setting a fixed 1450 RPM, but that also didn't fix the issue, so I had to disable the fan entirely... Not exactly the best solution.

- I read there's a FTW3 Hybrid firmware that supposedly fixes the problem, but couldn't much details on how. Some people even say that you flash that firmware, then flash back the normal FTW3 and the issue disappears, which makes no sense to me.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums...

On the main screen in your 1st pic, click the "Auto" button in the Fan Speed section so it's lit and not greyed out.  Click "Apply".

Then using the right arrow next to the Fan Speed section, click until you reach the Fan Curve Control screen.  Here you click "Fan Curve Control" so it's lit up.
Next, in the "Select Preset" box select "Custom".
Next, make sure "Link all Fan Curves is NOT lit if you want to control each fan seperatley.  Click "Apply"
Now you can drag and drop each set point to where you want for each fan.  Your card may have a minimum fan speed you can set.

Make sure to click Apply after each step and that you save your settings to a profile.  You will see the profile number turn blue when you click one and it's selected.

I already know this, but not what I was looking for... I use Afterburner because I don't like PX1. So the only solutions I have are to keep both opened and delegate fan control to PX1 while using Afterburner for all the rest, or set 3rd fan to fixed 1500 RPM and control the other two with Afterburner (which is what I do).

The weird thing is that, despite the fixed RPM setting, the 3rd fan still randomly clicks in annoying way every now and then. I wanted to know if someone tryed this "magic" FTW3 Hybrid firmware and if it actually fixes the weird behaviour of the 3rd fan.

You can control the 3rd fan separately with Afterburner. If you unlink the fans, fan 1 controls both Fans 1 and 2 together on the GPU. Fan 2, controls fan 3 on the GPU. Also, Aida64, hardwareinfo64 and GPU-Z all detect the third fan.

OP, I don't like X1 either. I use Afterburner for undervolting and overclocking, but I let Fan Control take care of my water pump and fans. Maybe give Fan Control a try?

Ok, I could get it to work. Somehow with the UI I was using for Afterburner I couldn't see all the fan options, so I switched to Mystic Skin.

Personally I'm fond of the 'Touch of Modern' skin.

Same here.  Touch of Modern Red 2.
