My pet is Hershey, a chocolate lab who turned 5 in November (and got a life vest for swimming). She still has more energy than I could ever hope to have and runs me ragged in the summer months when she goes swimming. This post is actually dedicated to zzcool and his beardie!

This is Roadrash, my rescue kitteh.  He was tossed out of a moving car on the Interstate at about 5 weeks old.  He was so beaten up from the impact that we didn't think he'd survive...he was in danger of losing his right eye, half his left ear was ground off, and his jaw was broken.  He was bleeding from both eyes...he just looked horrible.  After a week at the vets office, and several more weeks of extra attention and care from me, he was able to keep his eye, though he is blind in it.  He's now two and a half, and a genuinely fun guy to have around.  I'm not sure who was luckier, him or me.

I would love an African Grey.  Extremely intelligent.  I was actually looking at Cockatiels when I found my Meyers.   I always say I'd love to have a Macaw but the talking ability of the Greys is just nuts.  Just to give an example of the intelligence of these creatures, a researcher had one and it on its own put together the description "long yellow" to say when it wanted corn on the cob.  I've heard many times that the larger parrots like that have the mentality of a 5 year old with the emotional maturity of a 2 year old.

p.s. I love dogs too, just don't have one atm :)

 
My African Grey is a freaking genius lOL! When my dog goes near her cage she tells the dog to get away. ( in my language of course which is armenian) SHE is so funny and smart =). I have a Yorkie named Princess and my bird calls her into the room then tells her to Get away from her cage and go out side! She Says hello when she sees my pick up my phone or when someone is calling. She Mocks myself and my mother on  a daily basis by mimicking our voices! The best part is when she knows she does something wrong or i get bad she starts saying " NO! " before me and lifts one of her feet and shakes it around as if it were my finger loL! She knows so many words and pretty much says complete sentences  in our language LOL.! Off the top of my head the best things she says are
 
Who peed here? ( talking to the dog the dog loL )
go outside. Go pee. Go poop outside. Go outside and drink water.

She says " Turn the lights off on your way downstairs"
 
Also. my name is artur . So my mom calls me  all the time form downstairs and she mimics the conversation word for word.
 
"Artur"  " what?" " can you XXX XXX XXX XXX "  basically anything and everything from feeding the dog to seeing if the dog is upstairs :P.
 
Of course she says simple stuff like her name " ruby" hello, no, hi, what are you doing, and she barks like my dog :P
 
I Also wanted a Macaw But their speech ability is not as good as a Greys as the African Grey is the best! I actually was about to buy a Macaw as a fun time bird but decided against it as my Grey really loves me and would get too jealous. My Grey likes to be pet on her head the most and even tries to feed me sometimes :P. The only problem with Africans as far as a pet owners perspective is that they are not as friendly as Macaws or Conures and what not. They dont like to lay on their back and be babied like some birds do. They are very proud and courageous!
 
Here is my bird  like 2 months ago wanted to be pet and pretending to be a bull!
