Just been reading about the "Crypto Crash", of the last few days.

Is this a sign that we may see what occurred the last time Crypto crashed? Suddenly the demand for cards will tank, and eBay will be flooded with used GPU's?

Interesting to say the least, still massive Silicone shortage and manufacturing constraints, but will the personal computer/gaming enthusiast start to see more access to GPU's?

Would you want a mining card though?

Just like the last “crypto crash” crypto will recover again in a year or so. Even if the cards become available, it will be beneficial to some folks, but I don’t think crypto crash would be a good reason for dedicated miners to sell of their stock. If they were smart, they would hold their cards and continue mining for the recovery.

Generally no, having said that, if you can find out how the card was racked, how it was cooled, what power is what run at and for how long, you "may" be able to luck out and get a good quality card for a reasonable price. But on the whole, I wouldn't want to go down that rabbit hole.

My hope, is that the demand will lessen or disappear from this market segment, the bots will slow down, and we as the consumer might, hopefully, be able to purchase these cards new. Worst case, you try and find a card that been reasonably treated, and use that till something at retail comes along.

I'm not a miner personally, but I doubt the recent "crash" will last. Most people will want to keep their cards until it all blows over and be ready for the next upswing. It MIGHT, potentially turn away new people from going into mining right now because of the volatility. So that's something I guess..

The bots have been successful and they have been rewarded by either miners or consumers paying scalping prices for this. They can continue and the bots alone can manipulate the market themselves. The crypto scrouge will not be derailed even with it now being Buthurtcoin. I see no end to this madness until production increases. Now with the water issues at TSMC, it may continue until new fabs are built over the next 5 years.

Yeah I don't see the availability of GPUs changing for the better in the foreseeable future even if mining slows. It is super profitable for scalpers. Only thing that would alleviate the situation is if the market was flooded with gpus and I dont see that happening. If anything this years shortage has given all the gpu companies an organic buisness model that can justify them hiking prices way up in the future.

The current downturn in crypto won't deter miners.... yet. They have already recovered a bit and looks to be gaining again so unless we see a steady decline in crypto value, nothing will change.

What's more interesting to keep an eye on is the various regulations being introduced by China and others that may have a long term impact on crypto.

The crash has done nothing to deter miners as its still profitable.

These crazy prices just prove it!

I don't think this crypto crash is over yet.. might see some short-term recovery, but I think there's significantly more downside to come before it finds a bottom.

Also have to consider the Elon Musk factor.. every time he opens his mouth about crypto currency, the volatility goes crazy (crazier I should say).

Early speculation was that the next bear market would begin in September this year. Also some wild conspiracy theories about market manipulation to liquidate a single party from the BTC market. Things will recover.

I really hope this crypto craziness ends soon. I feel that nothing of value is being created. We're expending energy for no reason.

an actual crypto crash would be much worse than what we're seeing right now. The market is just being influenced by a multitude of factors at the moment.

Volatility equals worry.  Worry equals transactions.  Transactions equal network load.  Network load equals mining fees.

Mining has actually been more profitable than usual during the last couple of weeks.  It is only the last couple of days which have been low on mining profitability.  And mostly just because the value is low.  The payout rate is still good, but the value is low.  I think most miners will continue to mine for quite a while regardless of the valuation, with the assurance that the payout rate is good, with the hopes that the value will go back up some time in the future.

When the payout rate is low AND the value is low, that is when mining will halt for many miners.

If you have a look right now, crypto is crashing quite heavily as I type:

    Bitcoin USD$32,927.77 -5,671.82 -14.69%

    Ethereum USD$1,901.20 -570.75 -23.09%

    Dogecoin USD$0.2864 -0.0688 -19.3629%

And, like I said, that volatility makes mining fees pay out really well. Miners are getting more for less. And they will hold onto it until it is worth more some time in the future.

Mining won't seriously halt until the value is low AND the transaction fee mining payout rate is also low.

And even then, there will be some who continue to mine in order to get lots of cheap coins while mining difficulty is low.  They won't care if they are only making $0.01 a day, because they will be looking towards 5 years in the future and envisioning it being worth $100,000.

Depends if it stays low or not (relatively speaking), but yes I understand what you mean.

Just like regular money market, it crashes but as with all things it will regain pace and the cycle continues. I just want the GPU shortage to pick up pace as well.

Still profitable to mine. Crypto rebounding as well. Honestly, wish it would have crashed more so I could buy more.

It makes more sense, doesn't it?  You get this virtual thing that people believe has value, for a fraction of its normal price, using something which you already own for other reasons.
I don't have the stomach for investing in mining gear.

I also hope that that its gonna become less and less profitable to mine so we can finally buy the hardware we want without the hassle. The current situation is unpleasant to say the least.
