Hi.

My PC has been resetting for a while. Completely without any pattern.

I did a little stress testing and finally, using the OCCT 7.3.2, I managed to find out that it is most likely the fault of the power supply. OCCT has a test that checks the maximum power load of the computer and after turning it on, PC always restarts itself.

Do you know any other testing program/method I can use to test the power supply to be sure that its faulty before sending it to the repair or replacement?

My current power supply is: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2, 650W, 80 PLUS Platinum (220-P2-0650-X2)
Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Szymon.

What are you seeing that makes you think the Power Supply is faulty?  Are you receiving any error codes?  What are the components of your system and are any of them overclocked, i.e. RAM + XMP?

The PC is stable when doing stress tests only of the GPU or CPU but resets itself when I'm doing the power test in OCCT.
There are no errors, it just resets itself like It would lose power for a split of second.

Full build:
- ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming K4, Z270
- Intel Core i7-7700K, 4.2GHz
- MSI GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X 8GB
- Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2x16GB 3000MHz
- Windows 10 Home

Nothing is overclocked.

If you aren't getting any errors, my guess would be you're hitting the overload protection on the PSU, or your cpu is overheating- triggering the thermal overload shutdown.

The CPU and GPU on their own are ok. I've stress tested them like hell. The temperatures and power consumption are ok, the PC does not resets.
It might be the overload protection but the thing it - it hasn't happened for 4 years that I own this PC and now, suddenly it started :( That's why I assume some malfunction.

I've ordered a new, temporery power supply for testing. Will be replacing it tommorow to see if it's in fact the problem with my current EVGA one.

I'm confused then-  your first post says , "
 PC always restarts itself.

but your latest post you say , "
the PC does not resets.

If it IS restarting the entire system quickly - it would be more likely to be the 2 things i mentioned previously.

if it IS NOT  restarting and just flashing black for a second or so, that would more likely be TDR from  windows/ &Nvidia driver  ( Timeout Detection Recovery )
... and I would then recommend you read through all this helpful info  -->  https://forums.evga.com/C...ng-Guide-m3131813.aspx

What I said in the first post was: "OCCT has a test that checks the maximum power load of the computer and after turning it on, PC always restarts itself."
It restarts itself every time I turn on the power supply stress test in OCCT.
Besides that it resets randomly. Mostly during gaming but sometimes even in a web browser.

It does not resets when I turn on the OCCT's CPU or GPU stress test, so I don't think its CPU or GPU problem.
The OCCT helped me to narrow down the problem to (probably) PSU.

At least I hope it's PSU or faulty cable and not some more serious problem with the mainboard power distribution.

OK, so it was in fact the PSU.
I've changed my EVGA to MSI MPG, replaced all the power cables in the process too, and so far the problem disappeared. I've put the PC through the same stress tests as before and it's working properly. I've spent some time gaming and also - no resets.

So far it's looking good. Now I just need to return my EVGA PSU :(
