Just built a system in a DG-86 - love this case, but wish the front panel was tempered glass instead of plexi.  My plexi panel arrived with an annoying defect in the bottom right corner that shows up under certain lighting conditions.  Would be nice if EVGA offered a tempered glass side panel we could upgrade to.

I'm in Canada so afraid the RMA process would take months and I don't want to have to disassemble my system and send the entire case back just because of the plexi on the side-panel...

Hello MackTheKnight,

We do appreciate the feedback and suggestion.  At this time there is no tempered glass replacement option for the DG8 series case.  It is an awesome suggestion, that I will go ahead and forward over to our PMTeam for further considereation.

If you do have any issues with your current side panel, please feel free to send some images along with an email to support@evga.com so we can review issue and see if we can assist you further.

You can always try Coldzero and see if they'll make one.

Coldzero from Portugal makes some outstanding items. I have recommended his services many times.

Support is great. He has always responded almost immediately and shipping to the U.S. only took a couple days! Would recommend him over V1 tech every time.

As an alternative you could always try a local glass shop. They may be able to help

I agree. They need to offer this case with smoked tempered glass. The plexi scratches too easily

Thank you all for the suggestions.  I may indeed try ColdZero - have not heard of them before.

Agreed, EVGA should offer a smoked tempered glass option.

Hard to get a good picture of it as the lighting has to be just at the right angle.  Didn't notice until I pulled the protective film off after completing the build.

Second pic is as best as I can get the defect to show up on camera

Doesn't seem to matter what I do it won't clean off.

I believe you, thats just what it looks like. Is it smooth where the defect is like it is inside the plexi?

Yes, smooth on both sides, so it's like the defect is between the layers of plexi...

It might be worth contacting EVGA about a replacement. I have had times where places have sent me a replacement part with a hold on my credit card until the defective item is returned. The best option is to find out what options exist for you.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

probably just a impurity in the plexi, surprised it made it through QC like that.

Many thanks to EVGA Customer Support - as said here already - they are second to none.  Just a couple of e-mail exchanges with the pics was all it took and my new side panel is expected to arrive on Thursday.  :) :)  No muss, no fuss.

Thanks again - I will definitely be purchasing more EVGA products.  I don't remember ever having such an easy time processing an RMA.

Cheers,
Mack

Yes, I would be very interested in a tempered glass upgrade if EVGA were so inclined to offer one.

Happy to report that my new front panel arrived today in pristine condition.  No charge and it doesn't look like I'm supposed to ship the old one back, either.

Thanks again EVGA, for the excellent customer service!

EVGA = 100% best Customer Support. They were awesome with my DG=87 case as well. I am drooling at the thought of  a tempered glass panel for it! Hopefully we can get one to the masses sometime soon that is not too heavy for the hinges. Other "mod" I want to see is the right panel grill extended all the to the bottom to let the bottom third fan breathe freely(with a less obstructive dust filter). Otherwise I have grown quite fond of my DG-87

As long as your popular enough, you can get away with anything.

Re: Tempered glass upgrade? 2017/05/25 07:42:54 (permalink)
Agreed on all accounts, 09973 - Love this case, but those are the two main things I would change.  (TG Front Window and a more open right side panel)

That dust filter is quite obstructive, as pulling it out drops my temps 4 - 5 degrees C.  Would love to see someone 3d printing alternative right side panels for this case and selling them.

Sadly I think this case is in a small niche, so I'm not sure someone would find value in selling custom parts for it.  I will still hold out hope, though.

If anybody out there listening has the skills and tools - there are a few of us that would pony up for these upgrades! :)

sounds like someone of you don't mind spending the money.
maybe go buy the tools and some glass and start yourself a new hobby

but have you even considered the extra weight and captured heat that'd be generated from glass vs plastic
