Make sure the SSD is the ONLY drive connected. Disconnect any other drive. Then attempt a reinstall of Windows 10 64 bit.

Damn it's a brand new ssd out of the box. It's hooked with sata cables to the Mobo and the PSU, and I clipped it into place on the mount on the other side of the Mobo. Is it not supposed to be vertical/clipped in?

Ok its the only drive connected, I'll try again. The Mobo is picking it up, with the other sata ports read as empty, and picking up the name SanDisk sdssdh 1000gb.

Edit: tried installing it again, same freeze after going back to Mobo splash screen. Then it went to a windows error message and said "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart." With code Machine check exception. Is windows trying to load itself before being installed? I'm very confused lol.

To clarify, I have the load order for the bios to be 1. USB key, 2. Hard drive, and the other 8 after are just random order.

2nd edit: should I update the bios with the USB driver that came with the Mobo before installing Windows?

What I recommend is to run the Windows setup again with only that drive connected. Delete from the Windows setup screen all of the very small drives and then format the SSD. It will probably look like this:

So delete all of those small partition and recovery drives. If offered the ability to then format the SSD then do so. Then attempt the install again. Make absolutely sure your BIOs is set to boot from your USB stick (if that is what you're using to install Windows 10).

Re: Technical help with getting B360 to boot to BIOS 2019/08/04 05:24:55 (permalink)
The problem is I'm not even getting to that stage in the install. After plugging in the USB and booting, it loads to the black on white text asking to install either 64 or 32 bit windows. After picking 64 bit, it then goes to another black and white screen with a load bar and loading files. Then, once it loads all the files, it goes back to the Mobo splash starts spinning and then freezes, and either stays frozen with the load circle not moving on the Mobo splash or it goes to the error message window screen with the error machine code exception.

A machine-check exception (MCE) is a type of computer hardware error that occurs when a computer's central processing unit detects an unrecoverable hardware error in the processor itself, the memory, the i/o devices or on the system bus. It is not caused by software.

It was a windows error screen which confused me because windows hadn't even been installed yet. Do I have to do something with the USB that came with the motherboard? I'm completely stuck on how to fix this and have gotten nothing on the internet yet.

I'd suggest using another usb drive to install windows with. I'd also suggest trying to install windows on another storage device other than the one you're currently trying to install windows onto.

Is there a place I can download a copy of win 10 64 bit to a USB? The one I'm using is from Microsoft. I'll get a new ssd tomorrow and test that out since everywhere is closed now today.

You will need a 8GB USB Flash Drive.
Before you start REMOVE all your Other Drives, All of them.
Then Install Windows 10 on this New SSD Drive.
99% of the time you need New or Clean Drives to install Windows 10.
It is best to have Only the OS Drive Active when Installing a Fresh OS Install.
Then once the OS is installed go into the Bios and turn off Booting from all other Device.

Re: Technical help with getting B360 to boot to BIOS 2019/08/05 11:10:00 (permalink)
So I got the new SSD, and downloaded windows 10 64 bit to a brand new 16g USB. On startup with this new install of win 10, the BIOS splash screen appeared, and the windows dots spun 2 revolutions on the splash screen and then froze again. The copy downloaded successfully from Microsoft's website.

I tried using the USB that microsoft sent me, and it booted to the Black and white menu where you pick either 64 bit or 32 bit. upon picking 64 bit, the loading files screen appeared, and loaded all the way. Then, that went back to the BIOS splash screen and did the same circle twice and then freeze again.

Is there some setting I need to select in either BIOS or the first windows install screen? Like selecting safe mode or something?

To clarify, the only things hooked up to the computer during all of this is the keyboard, the USB stick, and the SSD. The computer boots to BIOS and then freezes after spinning a few times - the computer never gets to the windows set-up screens. This was tested with 2 brand new, different branded 1tb SSD's (sandisk and Samsung). Also tested with two different installs of windows (a copy downloaded from microsoft to a USB and a copy that came on Microsofts USB).

Are you using a regular sata based ssd, or are you using a m.2 ssd?

Sata based. The first ssd was a SanDisk 1tb, the one I bought today was a Samsung Evo 860 sata based ssd. Both plug into Mobo with sata cables and are being picked up by the Mobo.

Have you tried moving the sata cable to a different port to see if that makes any difference? If no, give that a shot. I would also try installing windows with only one stick of ram installed.

I'll try both of those when i go home next, probably tomorrow. Does windows have a fit when theres more than one ram stick in?

No, it shouldn't but maybe you have a faulty stick that is causing the problem. If windows fails to install on a single stick I would suggest swapping it out for the other just to make sure your ram is ok.

Would the b360 bios pick up on the stick if it was faulty? I know the bios is recognizing both sticks on it's menu (in the top left).

Is it possible that the Mobo needs to be updated before doing anything else, either using the USB that came with the board or by downloading an update from the evga website?

It definitely wouldn't hurt to update the bios to the latest version, but you shouldn't have to update the bios to get windows to install without issues.

I see. I'm starting to think it's just a bad motherboard for whatever reason.

There may be a problem with the cpu. Did both ram sticks fail to install windows when installed individually?

Did you ever remove the Motherboard from the Case and place it on a Static Free Surface and see if you can enter the Bios.
All you need is the 24-Pin Power Cable and the 8-Pin EPS/CPU Cable Plugged in on the Motherboard.
The CPU and One Memory Stick.
The GPU and the Power Cables.

Hey, I've been very busy with work, finally got around to post an update.

The ram sticks all had the same result (alternating each, testing both slots one at a time with a total of four tests). Same results as before: loading files, back to bios splash, then crashing after the windows circles appear. I also tested the different sata ports on the board with no different results.
