and itll all still be bought up by miners and scalpers... Especially since mining is not a finite thing. You could have millions of gpus and still be making multiples of your crypto currency.

Afaik miners make up for a very low amount of the purchases, I think linus tech tips made a video about it recently.

3-6% are miners - is what the number is
and people blame miners - like 5% more is not gonna do much when there is nothing out there

the problem is.... NOT ENOUGH SUPPLY PERIOD

and SCALPERS laying siege to the system

Indeed, as someone who doesn't just game with my GPU but do other workloads too I am afraid of what kind of precedent it sets to set these limits on the card. I would be EXTREMELY disappointed if my work suffers and I will be forced to switch over to AMD GPUs. :/

Looks like I'm gonna stay with my 2080 TI for awhile longer.  No biggie...still a great card

Same here unless BF6 becomes too demanding to keep up but that could also be because the rest of my X99 system. lol

At some point there is going to be the inverse problem when the miners unload unprofitable GPUs in mass into the market. You think the market is damaged now, just wait till hundreds of thousands of burnt up GPUs enter the market sold as "lightly used" and "refurbished" with the price dropping out of the market to the point where value in GPUs will tank to half of MSRP. This will happen a few times when the crypto market bubble is dumped after the pump.

This is the next logical step in this nonsense.

Exactly.

Right now, the resale value for even older GPUs is amazing but will eventually dive once that bubble bursts.

I saw an RX 480 8GB sell for $500 and the RX 480 is some 5 years old,
that is why I call the digital coins a gold rush was irrational behaviour

Yup, if you got spare cards collecting dust, might as well sell it while the market is there

I literally do and should.  I don't mine nor have I ever mined or know how to mine but I'm sure there are miners out there running a small or big inefficient operation buying up old GPUs, presumably speaking but hey, buy mine.

Apple is already in good shape, having booked most of TSMC 5nm. Intel has their own foundries, obviously. Others will suffer.

This is the result of globalism and capitalism to an extent, a global market favors efficiency but hand of the market is blind, idiot thing like evolution. There is no planning ahead. Companies and factories that manufacture the same specialist parts compete until there is only one vendor because that's economically more efficient and saves money, right up until something happens to that factory.
