So, I bought this wonderful PSU! I plugged it in then my MB didn't post. So, I took it out and plugged my old PSU and my MB didn't post.

I reset the CMOS, tried different strategies and about 8 hours later, which is now, I have come to the conclusion that either my CPU or MB died because I am not even getting beep codes. I made sure that the MB was compatible with the PSU but I never thought about making sure the CPU could handle it.. if that is even a thing.

The light codes on my MB just shows VGA and Boot Device even without a GPU in it. With a CPU by itself it shows the DRAM code then after installing the DRAM the VGA and Boot Device light up again. Absolutely no beep codes. I even hooked the PC up to speakers just in case. Does anyone have any advice, or should I just get a new CPU and MB?

Specs
  • MB: ROG Strix 470F-Gaming
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
  • GPU: MSI 3080 Suprim X / (extra) AMD Radeon RX 6800
  • PSU: Supernova 1300 G2 / (old) Corsair RM 650X
  • DRAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 4x8GB (I know that is made for intel and not AMD but I've been running it for two years without a problem but wondered if this could have had a reason to kill either MB or CPU when more power was installed)

no.  pull everything out of the case.  set the motherboard on a cardboard box.  1 stick of ram, 1 graphic card...  (BTW why are your specs a 3080 and a 6800?  who does this?, you ran these as an either or or both?)

hook up the 24 pin and 8 pin cpu power and turn it on.

I pulled the 6800 out of another PC to see if that was the issue.

Without the CPU and just the GPU along with a stick of DRAM there are no indicator lights. As soon as the CPU is attached it cycles through the lights then stops on VGA and after a few seconds the Boot light also lights up.

    No beep codes.

I cleared the RTC RAM a few times while also pulling the battery and I finally got the Radeon to boot the PC. Looks like my problem is the 3080.

That is disgusting. I prayed it would only be the MB or CPU ...

Probably the motherboard needs an updated BIOS to see/ use  the 3080 ..
Plus you need to make sure the 'Fast Boot' is OFF in the BIOS
& turn off 'CSM' in your BIOS   as well
as these all give trouble at times with the new 30xx series cards in systems.

Over a decade ago I had an enermax PS trash my son's mb and attached components when it failed during use.  Enermax would only replace the PS and not the burned out hardware which I've never forgot.

In such a case you have to decide if you want to take Enermax to small claims court (with or without a lawyer) or hire a lawyer and take them to court. In that case you also would need proof the PSU caused the fault which burned out all of the components.
