[Intro/Gathering]

I'm not updating my computer every year, its more like when it get loads of boost. And now is time, its actually been for few years now. Anyway.

Gathering info, getting started etc. 5820k was first that i started to look into, it didnt quite make that wow-effect though so it was mostly skipped to next ones. 6800k was almost same thing as 5820k, it was way more meh than last one. It gone by this for while though, and if there were some second hand parts for nice price then maybe those two. Forgot whole thing for a while, but when Ryzen came and my curiosity raised little bit. At first it seemed godlike, but it had some baby issues. So decided to wait little bit longer. 7820k published and it was way more horrifying than those two mentioned in here. VRM issues, performance, had to be delidded. Oh god, why Intel even did this? So it was time to go Ryzen, now or never.

First things first, I was looking OCN (I can be found there too, in many topics. Not regular user) for good overclocking mobos while i noticed Gigabytes Gaming 5. It should be top notch there, although every mobo seems to have some issues. Asus wasnt my first choice anymore due to bad memories. More or less. And Asrocks Taichi is overpriced here, so thats that. After few reviews i was convinced that this is it. Looked through stores what price they were asking about this and found one store with pretty good discount. It had to be error by their end, so ordered it right away. 2 weeks later got email that somebody at import screwed up and sent K5. Cause didnt have Ryzen yet, so we decided to put that order back up and get real one. After 2 weeks it just appeared on nearest post office and was super happy about it.

There was still time before schools starting so rest this time was waiting. Pensive waiting. Why waiting schools starting? Well, students get discount on "school projects". Not every student, but electrics specialized yes. And not all, its our teacher that allows us to order computer parts. You just have to build it in school. Not in mine case though. I already looked everything to be in order when school starts so it can be ordered immediately. And these were Ryzen 1700 and G.Skill 3600 CL16 Ripjaws V (Samsung B-dies). I did kinda coin flip with 3200 and 3600 rams. 3600 had less ETA, and almost same price. This was again 2 weeks, or it should have been. It took again 1 month after they arrived. I still have no idea why everything took so much time to arrive.

While processor and ram was on its way to me, i looked EK's shop for just new AM4 bracket for my Supremacy EVO. And maybe new res. After thinking it over if i needed anything else with same time was some sort of mistake. I was looked for new hose to fit my color scheme better than my old blue one. Because new hose was bigger, it absolutely needed new fittings. And, oh boy here we go downhill . Well, finally got ordered my things and it was full box of things. And brackets was the only thing i really needed.

Things was about here that you'll need building new battlestation. So we go to next chapter.

[Building and some backfiring]

Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE'LL FIGHT TILL THE END!

Collected rest parts, and decided that i might build it later. Just because there wasnt really time. One hour later old system was drained, new mobo installed, front rad turned and was about to go build loop itself. Plan was to use my old GTX770 with block so i play/fold with it still. Back to building loop: new res founded its place pretty quickly. It was decided before ordering, and fittings founded theirs. There was some things that i didnt quite like, so to do it i was 3 pieces short. 3-fricking-pieces. 1x45, 2x45 and 90 degrees. It was already late and was little bit frustrated about this, fast order to EK with this and with most fastest delivery you'll ever see. Money didnt matter, if it came as quick as possible.

Next day at work had those "what if" thoughts, and everybody knows that its again downhill. Emailed EK if they could add something for that same order. New gpu block, Acetal-Copper FE. Thoughts were still more likely "i can order it now, and order gpu later. Its more like saving money when you dont have to order block later". Its like whispering with devil itself. Everybody knows how story this kind can only end. It ended ordering new gpu, Evgas 1060 FTW+ 6gb. We're coming back for that later. Everything was still waiting on something, so it was time to think about fans itself. It was in to-do-list for some time to add new case fans, 2x 140. I had little bit help with this, and thanks there for that, so ordered those new ones for case. Also because i was ordering fans for case then why not full set then, so 4x120 for rads too. And thanks, again. These are also on their way to me.

That was current situation whats been going with this. Gpu and PowerLink is coming. Fans is coming. What else you could do? Started to do little bit tubing itself, its fun.

Now its time to reveal some things, yes mobo is partially white has orange leds and orange tubing was absolutely right choice. Fittings wasnt that easy to pick, but maybe they vanish there nicely. In the picture it seems way red'ish, but its orange. And yes, res is not quite right. Loop is Res-Pump-Rad-GPU-Rad-CPU-Res.

[Most common things that has been asked]

Q: 1060 with watercooling, seriously? With that same amount you could get 1070
A: Yes. Watercooling is my way of doing things. Its my hobby after all; its efficient and silent. 1070 would also need waterblock and then it would cost same as 1080 and so on.

Q: What for is this computer
A: Mostly my daily driver, but gaming is my life. Also few months ago founded Folding, so thats also when im not home.

Q: How you fill and drain your loop
A: For fill i got special bottle, it doesnt take that much longer tho. Draining is done by removing pump-rad hose. It will drain almost whole loop.

[Last words]

Thanks if you did go through that all. Its not even readable english nor anything else. Thanks to everyone that helped me to decide parts, you know yourselves. I couldn't done this without you. Building PC is not always easy, this had all sorts of backfires and still isnt anywhere near ready. I will post more pictures and add text when things get here. Calm yourselves. I hope for many questions, ups or downs. Everything. Anything.
Im updating this while things get here and will add more to that building chapter. With pictures.

My feelings going to be something like this when started first time

Thanks! This will appear on mods rigs when its "finished", overclocked and benchmarked. Next patch along the road might be getting custom cables. Those are easily added later.

    Thanks!

Today had message from local store that gpu is still on hold, "distributor didn't have those on shelf so they had to order them". Last week it was "When you ordered, distributor had those in their warehouse, so it should be any day within your hands". No hate though, these things happen. Mostly to me, but thats another case. Next week at monday they should have it, then it should be by wednesday with me. Then everything should be here, by that day.

Cause i ordered new fans, Akasas had to be removed. Very spacious. Top rad holds only 2 fans, cpu power cable is blocking last one.

Here is little bit about front rad and pump combo nearby floor. Pump is now hanging with tubing and im going to do "table" for it soon. Some sorbothane should be good choice. Its little bit blocking bottom fans flow, and fan is going to be attached outside. It might help, or might not.

GPU stock is touch and go primarily due to cryptominers buying up video cards.

Sadly the cryptominers are messing with supplies of video cards for everyone, making PC gaming life a little difficult right now.

But eyyy, something is happening. Lets go with the pictures, thats what everybody wants most. Today came first package full of nice things and fans is going to be revealed.

Fans is going to be now NoiseBlocker eLoops B12-PS for rads and B14-PS for case. They fit there like they should be.
"Happy little accidents" - Bob Ross

Cause this was small update (box contained PowerLink and backplate too, so aww yiss goes there too. Fans was way more) we can go to the next thing. Bad thing is that case fans, is delayed (add this to your mind). Im pretty sure that its not because miners, this time . Somebody just mark me surprised and paint that face or something. Thing is, these was ordered early stage. And "they should be here next week, tuesday". Its pretty fatal that these have to be installed before i close loop. Lets just hope for something to happen, monday is the date for GPU.

Anyway, lets not dwell in bad things, lets just focus nicer things. Its Friday and oh my god, look at that white combo. Uhhh...

Also Patch 0.95 added. This way to ModsRigs site: http://www.modsrigs.com/detail.aspx?BuildID=39222

Finding a budget card is hard now.
You can go with a 1060 for around 300 or you can go with a 1080 at 500+.
Everthing in between is a tuff sell.

Gpu is already ordered, 1060 FTW+. They just couldn't get it somewhy. Cheapest 1060 6gb model and thats 395$, 1070 goes for 580$ and 1080 for 740$

There was one thing that i never mentioned about why also 1060. If, i mean really IF, there is reason to update card later on then this will go to full day folding. I just dont really feel that i would be needing more than 1060. Games runs nicely with my old one too (770)

Re: Student budget Ryzen build, Slowmo 2017/09/28 06:27:47 (permalink)
These past few days was pretty intense after all. Gpu came Tuesday, i installed that straight away with new block. Both gpu and cpu has now ThermalGrizzly Hydronaut. I dont like it, if you want my review. First start and almost straight to get FireStrike for modsrigs. Score is 11400 combined (https://www.3dmark.com/fs/13728084).

I had some scary moments there when you look up GPU temps. Problem was that Ryzen doesnt heat up with stock cpu ratio so pump doesn't notice gpu's temps. Everytime pump started gpu went down to 40c and when pump stopped it skyrocketed to 82c. Found Gigabytes program to adjust fan curve and now its somewhere where it should be. When FurMark starts = gpu temp rises little bit over what they should be but pump is starting little bit late. It doesnt bother me though, i want to see real gaming temps really soon. We're talking little bit over 40c anyways, Ryzen goes somewhere nearby.

I tried little bit overclocking cpu too, 3,7ghz @ 1,22 was pretty stable and 3,8 @ 1,212 was usable for desktop
I will be testing clocks more near future and hopefully can get some good overclock in Ryzen with good voltages. Not going over 1,4V.

Edit: Seems to last Prime95 and normal use sametime with that upper set overthere
