Edit: solved

I had an overheating issue that I mostly solved in my previous thread: https://forums.evga.com/Solved-EVGA-980Ti-Hybrid-getting-up-to-84C-Faulty-water-pump-m3066623.aspx

I already described the issue that I'm having now in a reply that I posted in my previous thread:
The only thing I'm slightly worried about now is the ticking noise I'm still having at temps higher than 60C. I mentioned earlier I broke off a few of the capacitors around the GPU die when recently cleaning the thermal paste but I had the ticking sounds before that. As far I remember, I always had the ticking sounds after replacing the original thermal paste. I see the rad fan cable that goes along the shroud fan being named as a cause on other threads with people that have a similar noise but I checked and it's not the cable. I'm also pretty certain the noise is coming from the GPU because I can hear it through the shroud fan exhaust cutout at the bottom of the card.

Someone said the noise might be caused by thermal paste getting to the capacitors. This could be the cause but as I posted earlier with the pics of reapplying the paste, I cleaned most of the paste around the die as best as I could without breaking off any more capacitors.

If anyone has any idea what the sound might be, please do tell.

Sound clip of the ticking noise at approximately 70C: https://youtu.be/U6VfHSF7SE0
I can say that it's not coil whine from the PSU or GPU either since those sound different than the sounds I'm getting.

Does anyone know what could possibly cause this? Perhaps thermal paste that got somewhere it isn't supposed to be? Perhaps the broken capacitors themselves causing the noise? Maybe an aging symptom of GPUs in general?

Hmm thats tough. Try spinning the fan with your finger. Possible it may be a fan issue but really tough to say.
See if the noise happens as you manually spin the fan. and then see if its hitting anything.

I made sure it's not the GPU fan. I always checked it when I reapplied the thermal paste.

That click noise at the 0:55 mark?..Sounds like a relay click, the PSU would be a likely culprit..If your PSU has an ECO Mode/Hybrid Mode switch, turn it off and see if it matters.

I should've mentioned that sound actually came from the case (Corsair 650D) itself. The flaps of the side panel sometimes aren't flush and it makes that noise when it sits into place. Happens just that one time then it's good till I take it off again and forget to push it in all the way.

Bad angle but the hoses are at the bottom of the rad which is mounted as an exhaust at the rear of the case. GPU's in the first slot.

    Bump.

Anyone have any idea? I guess I'll have to live with the sound till I get a newer GPU in the future.

    Bump.

Now that summer's over, ambient temps have gone down as well. Ticking is still there though. Just a bit less.

I got the same problem. Turns out it's the fan motor on the card itself (not the radiator) when it's either just starting up or at a low speed. The workaround is to use the Precision X1 program to override the auto fan speed and set it as high as you can tolerate its noise. If you don't go 100%, you'll have to have faith that you're not so overclocked or stressing it so much that you need the extra airflow. I don't know if there's an easy fix without replacing parts.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying. The ticking sound seems to have away completely now. Not sure when it started disappearing but it's not there anymore at the same temps as before.

It can't have been what you described because I tried changing the fan speed to 100% before when the ticking was still there and it didn't make it any less.

I would check the fan bracket for any wobble. Just tap the fan itself for any movement. It should be fixed and barley move. Bought a refurbished 560ti a while back on new egg and had to fix the bracket. It cracked and made a clicking noise when the fan blades hit the housing. If most of the bracket is there you can super glue it to fix cracks

Thank for your reply but as I mentioned earlier, the issue seems to have away completely. It could've been coolant that was stuck or something but it had nothing to do with the fans.
