While we're all waiting for the 3080 Rollouts from the Step-Up Program, there's been reports of issues with the 3080 (depending on model and brand). There's been reports of constant crashes due to the corners being cut (depending on brand) on the components used. Here is actually a good video that breaks it all down in detail. Don't know if this affects the 3080FTW3, but the XC3 is affected.

youtube.com/watch?v=x6bUUEEe-X8

Edit: These issues are happening mainly from overclocking. As Jay explains in the video, you are guaranteed stability on the voltage that is printed on the label. Anything higher than what is on the label may result in instability and crashes depending on the brand you have.

You have a timestamp where XC3 is mentioned?  And since this video, Jay has released at least 2 follow up videos on Twitter. XC3 wasn't mentioned in either of those.

Jay points this out at 5:27 in the video & he compares the XC3 card with the Founder's edition at 9:05. While EVGA XC3 doesn't use all 6 larger capacitors (compared to some of the other brands) but instead has 5 POSCAPs (large capacitors) & 1 MLCC (smaller capacitors) it deviates from the Founder's edition which has 4 POSCAPs and 2 MLCC.

Concerning the POSCAP/game crash reports. EVGA, FE, and ASUS boards all seem to have remedied this situation prior to sending out consumer boards (some review boards have the less optimal POSCAPs). An EVGA rep has covered this in a post in the main RTX 30 series forum. I beleive it was stickied, or at least near the top last night.

Well that's good to hear they have already remedied the problem! Will check out that post in the forum!

Edit: Found the post, this is good news. Anyone that wants to read it, it is here: reddit.com/r/TEAMEVGA/comments/izwzkp/reguarding_3080_ftw3_poscap/

FE's are modified from Nvidia's reference design as well.  The actual Reference design is 5 + 1 MLCC. EVGA already stated that XC3 is as close to reference as they have but it is still custom, so no issues with that configuration.  Plus there's a lot more at play here.  Board design as a whole also dictates how the card functions.  The caps are just 1 piece of the puzzle that seems to be causing some issues, but until people like Steve from GN or other electrical engineering background creators tests and isolates where and how it crashes with multiple configuration of cards, we should take everything with a grain of salt.

When it comes to crashes, too, they aren't all going to be related to this. People are having issues with GPU scheduling, too, which will probably require an update from Microsoft, but there's bound to be a few driver issues, people with bad cards or weak power supplies, and the other usual stuff that happens with new hardware.

Hi,
i have one question about the Step-Up-Programm...
I am in Germany and wont to Step Up my 2070 FTW3 Ultra. So when i check the list of available Card i get a list of 3090 FTW3 and 3080 FTW3 but i can´t understand the prices form both cards. For the 3090 FTW3 2134,39 Euro and for the 3080 FTW3 974,36 Euro but that can´t be correct, can it ? I check the EGVA site and there are other cheaper prices and other Dealers are cheaper too, if there any reasonable explantation?

I bought a 2070 Super and registered for Step-up the morning after launch, but I wouldn't be surprised if the queue was already pretty long after 24 hours.

So I just got an email for Step 2 (12 hours ago 9/28/20), I originally enrolled for a 3080 Step Up on Launch day, 9/17/20 at 9:18 AM.

Yeah I'm still in Step 1 of the queue.  I got into the queue about an hour and 20 minutes from the launch. Email from EVGA is 07:20AM.  It will likely take a while for my RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming to be available due to the problem with the POSCAPS.  That said, I can wait.

There is no problem with the POSCAPS, only a few EVGA cards were sent to reviewers with 6 POSCAPS. The FTW3 has only 4 and the XC3 has 5 (same as reference board). There is just a huge demand and step up is lower priority because we are already purchasing a EVGA card. Pushing more of their cards to retailers ensures that they can sell even more.

I read that there was a delay in manufacturing because EVGA engineers found the problem before the RTX 3080s went live.  I know that there shouldn't be any problem with the card that I'm stepping up to.  Gamers Nexus has stated that the card that they reviewed performed the best thus far.

So is the 3080 FTW3 the only available card through step-up? Would rather have a XC3 to fit in my Ncase properly.

You dont want anything less than the FTW3 ones. Especially with the capacitor issues right now. This might be fixed by that time in the form of firmware applied that locks the boost clock or they manufacture at spec or above spec for those.

Im getting the 3090.
and its the 3080 FTW3 Ultra. So the highest of the cards. same with the 3090. its the FTW3 ultra not the FTW3. They said these were the ones they were reserving for the step up program. Which is good.

It really depends on when the cards are available by EVGA but with the numbers they are talking about I think they will be in short supply. If the 3080 was to show up as a step up option though I would jump on it rather then wait for the 3070 which just says "October" for a release and could fall outside the step up window depending on when in July you bought the card and when in October they come out.

I plan on stepping up to a 3080 anyways do i got a solid 40 days left on my step up before it runs out.

I have 10 days left. Sadly I bet I won't make it.

Then my friend your only option here since you only have 10 days left is, "settle" for a 3090 or 3080 step up. Sadly it will cost a few hundred dollars more. But its your only option for a step up atm. ANNNNNND you'll be waiting a few good months until that step up is fulfilled now.

They posted in the email that the 90 days does not apply anymore once you are in the queue. you just CANNOT LEAVE THE QUEUE once your 90 period expires. if you do then you are screwed.
Few good months? I have seen quite a bit of ppl that submitted this past week already get there final email and payment processed for upgrade with only the return of their current card pending.

If I buy a 20 series graphics card can I enter the queue for the FTW rtx 3080 right away and be guaranteed to get one eventually or does it need to be in stock for me to select it as a step up option?

You can enter the queue as soon as you've registered your new card. You'll need the serial number on the box, so you might have to wait even longer for the new card to be shipped. Also, make sure that you purchase from a qualifying retailer and that you meet all the requirements on the step up page. Jump in queue ASAP!

Theres a thread that is tracking peoples qeueu positions but as yet seems no one has gotten step 2 despite reg being open since 17th

I haven't been following the other thread. Do you have a link to it?

Here's the email I received a few days ago about Step 5. Don't know why it hasn't been rolling out for other people, but I may have been earlier in the queue.
