So, if someone purchases a new EVGA 2080 Super from a online reseller this week.  Would they be able to use that card for now, and register for the step up program, get in queue, and pay the difference to upgrade to a FTW3 3080?

I am willing to do that.  Just to get a shot at the 3080 FTW3...

However if that won't qualify me... big pass..

I have no official response but that should be the case. I purchased an EVGA 1050ti card from Best Buy and it was eligible for Step-Up. From what I understand any card from an authorized reseller is eligible to Step-Up to a more powerful card one-time only and the card you step up to is the final product you are left with.

Their website has a large section dedicated to the details. If EVGA has a 2080 Super in stock I'd just grab it from them. I bought a 2070 Super two months ago from them and the whole Step-Up process has been easy so far. Been in queue since the 17th for a FTW3 Ultra (the only 3080 available to step up to) but I fully anticipate several months of waiting.

The good news is once you start the Step-Up process the 90 day expiration is forgiven and as long as you complete the process you are guaranteed a card... Eventually 😉

I did this on a 2080 super FTW3 Ultra from Newegg a few days ago. I’m already in the step up queue. Hope that helps. Might still try to get the RTX 3090 tomorrow if I can.

Also make sure the before tax and shipping retail price does not exceed the before tax and shipping retail price of the 3080 FTW3 Ultra ($809.99 I believe) or you will lose money.

Yes, I did that very thing but they could remove the FTW3 Ultra at any time....

Yeah, once you're in the queue, you're good to go.  Now when you join the queue and when you'll get the card is a whole other matter.  The ones who joined the queue last Thursday morning should see movement within the next week or two.  That should give you perspective on when you'll actually receive one in hand.

Ok it looks like a good solid option.  If I don't snag a card in the AM.. This is my go to plan.    Thanks for the advice.   Out of all the cards I am reading about a EVGA 3080 or 3090 FTW3 or an ASUS Tuf or Strix 3080/90 OC are the ones I like.  Best reliability and brands..

I've been curious about this. Do you get to choose the model you step-up to? Also, what about the price difference? 2080's are still marked up above a 3080. Will EVGA refund me some money?

I feel that at this point joining the step up program will take far longer than it will take compared to when the GPUs will be restocked and perhaps even readily available at least for the 3080. I've seen countless posts about this on reddit, twitter, and elsewhere since the 3080 launched.

Yes if purchased new and from a valid retailer and you register your card within 14 days or buy the extended warranty if it's past 14 days.  When you step up you'll just join the queue.  You'll pay the difference later when your card has been secured.  Just know you may be waiting till December or later to get yours due to how long the queue probably is at this point.

Yes you will probably wait a while if you are just jumping in the queue now, but 1) you will pay significantly less (only pay difference between product price for what you paid for and the price of the new product + taxes + shipping) and 2) you have a card to use in the meantime you are in the queue instead of sitting there waiting for nothing.

With everyone discussing the stock issues and everything being bought by "bots", the step up is actually a reasonable option at this point.

Thanks for the info. I may do this option and see how long it takes. I'm not actively searching every minute of my day for stock to replenish so this is likely my only option. I can always return the 2070 super if this doesn't work out or sell the step-up card if by some miracle, I acquire a 3080 ftw3 ultra gaming before the step-up.

Yea, I got lucky and got a 2080ti ftw3 ultra gaming on the cheap during the panic sale. Obviously not eligible for a step-up, but with this shortage being as bad as it turned out to be, at least I have an RTX card to run cyberpunk, so i have no issue waiting in que.

So the new "EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FTW3 ULTRA GAMING 08G-P4-3287-KR" video card that I ordered from Newegg will be arriving today.  My intention is step up to the EVGA 3080 FTW.  Currently I am using a ASUS Strix 2070 Super OC in my system (X570 Formula viii MB, Ryzen 9 3950X CPU, 64GB 3600 MHZ RAM, 1440 27 and 32 inch monitors).  My question is should I just leave it in the box or use it for now to take advantage of the minor performance increase?  I plan to hold on the the ASUS card as my emergency backup.

If this is a 4 or 5 month wait I likely would just use the 2080.. until I get the go ahead to ship it.

    Thoughts?

Open that sucker up man. Play with it a little and compare. Step up allows you to use the products which is why it’s so awesome. The 2070 super in my rig is going to be sent back soon but until then I’m keeping it overclocked and gaming.

You can use your 2080 super. Once you have registered for the step-up program, you will be placed in a que. As you move up in the que, you should get a notice to ship out your 2080.

Go to your product page and click on the VIEW DETAILS button right under your 2070 Super.

    1) Did you buy it within the last 90 days?
    2) Did you buy it from a qualifying retailer, Brand New?
    3) Did you register it within the first 14 days of ownership (if #2 was answered Yes) or bought the warranty from EVGA?

If you answered Yes to all the questions, you can get into the step up program.  If any are No (basically), then you won't be able to Step-Up. (one exception is if you answered Yes, Yes, No.  You'll have to buy the extended warranty and then it should be available to you).
