Good evening,

I would like to know if I can step up from a EVGA RTX 2070 XC ULTRA to EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3? How does it work?

2070 cost $540 and 3080 $790. Do I have to pay $250 more + shipping?

And the most important, how long will it take? Is there a queue?

Thank you!

The short of it - if you registered your 2070 within 14 days of the purchase, and are within the 90 day step up window - you can step up your card. If you didn't register within the 14 day window, you must purchase an extended warranty to be able to step up within that 90 day window (there are no exceptions to the 90 day window). Once you're in queue, it's a line - you are guaranteed your step up card, and can continue using your old one until it's time to swap out. You pay the difference in MSRP of the new card to the price paid of the old card (minus taxes and shipping). And I do believe that you pay for shipping your old card to EVGA.

You will probably have a higher chance of buying a RTX30X0 from a retailer or etailer before you get a 30X0 from the step-up program....

No idea, but a lot of other people have had the same idea. I heard from Jacob Freeman via Twitter that EVGA just shipped out the second batch. That's all any of us know.

This is what I posted in another thread.....

You'll probably get your step up card some time in Feb or March.

    WARNING
Anyone currently considering buying a lower end card to get in the step up que needs to fully read and understand the terms:

    https://www.evga.com/support/stepup/

    - When I stepped up to a 2080 Ti in mid-2019 it took me about a month to complete the process and have a 2080 Ti in hand.  This was well after the launch in Sept '18.  It took months for some of the people who signed up in '18.

    - I did it because I wasn't getting enough out of the 2080 I had bought for 4K gaming, 2080 Ti's were generally available at the time from many sources.

    - You reserve your step-up model at Step 1, so any step-ups started now get the FTW3 card

    - Supposedly Step-Up cards are from *available inventory* and are normally reference cards.  If vendors are demanding cards and cards are constantly selling out, there will not be cards made available, or maybe they will make just a few available at a time.  Step-ups are last priority for who gets cards.

    - If reference cards are in lower demand / higher availability, eventually they will be the Step-Up option, this could change any day.

    - People have been discussing doing step-up on various other forums for the last month or so.  The list is a mile long now and anyone serious about it signed up right when it became live.

    - The program is to allow people to upgrade who need more performance, not to "pre-order" them.

    - There is extremely high demand for 3080 step-ups, far more than 2080 Ti's two years ago.

    - You definitely will be able to buy a card outright in the next month or two, faster than using step-up.

    - The only way I would step up right now is if I HAD TO ABSOLUTELY get a gpu for my machine RIGHT NOW and was OK with waiting several months, paying full MSRP, and the downtime to step up.  Granted, this does let you spread out the cash outlay.

    - IMHO, anyone who orders a lower card TODAY and starts a step-up when they get it, will not get a step-up 3080 in hand until some time in 2021.

But like, that's just my opinion man.

If you insist on doing it, I'd get a 2070 Super FTW3 Ultra from Newegg, it's a good fast card with a good cooler and high power limit, selling for MSRP $599 in stock, it should keep you happy for many months if you never had a card as good.  Just keep in mind you're locked in so if you find a 3080 on the open market before your step up happens, you'll have to sell the 2070S at a loss.  Or just buy the cheapest card you can get by with, if you're going to actively keep looking.

If you don't care when you get the card this will work and is a good option if you desperately need a new card. But if you already have a card I'd at least wait until AMD reveals their lineup next month to see how that effects the product lineup.

Now I'm confused. I thought you could only step up to the same class? like if you bought a 2070, you could only step up to a 3070?

You can step up to anything of a higher performance tier than your current card. So you could step up to even a RTX 3090 if you wanted to.

I will put this out there though. I started the step up process day 1 (Sept 17th) when the RTX 3080 launched and I still don't even have a number in the que, still no email for step #2. I knew it was going to be months before availability was enough to start fulfilling step up requests but I did it for 2 reasons

    1) it is for my "VR" rig where the RTX 2070 Super is currently and honestly the RTX 2070 Super plays everything in VR just fine
    2) I didn't feel like going on an Easter Egg hunt trying to find a RTX 3080 in stock

So, if you do want one sooner rather than later, forget about the "step up" option. It's not a viable path to acquiring one in a timely manner. Sure you are "guaranteed" one once you enter the que, but don't expect that to be before the end of the year.

Good point made on this thread -

"So, if you do want one sooner rather than later, forget about the "step up" option. It's not a viable path to acquiring one in a timely manner. Sure you are "guaranteed" one once you enter the que, but don't expect that to be before the end of the year. "

I decided, and I might be wrong, that the step up program was worth a shot.  I will consider it a win of I have my EVGA 3080 FTW before XMAS.  I really don't see winning against the bots, paying twice  or more the list price on ebay.  So yeah.. if the cards are out in force online to buy in late November and early December I doubt you will see the "good" ones.  Sure you want to settle for something worse then a founders card.. it might be there.  However the EVGA 3080 FTW3 will be sold out.. again, again, and again  (my prediction).  And getting a ASUS Strix.. LOL.. never happening until maybe next summer if you just want to do online.

I just received my EVGA 2080 Super FTW3 today, ordered it just for the step up, its likely going in my rig this weekend, replacing what will eventually become my spare card, a ASUS Rog Strix 2070 Super Advanced.  I decided to try it out since it could be the card I use for a long time if things are as bad as I think they will be trying to get my 3080.  I got the auto notification that I am in the queue, my invoice is uploaded.

    However:

I have 24 days left to return my EVGA 2080 Super to the online reseller.  If I can't find a acceptable 3080 in that 24 days I will just have to be ok getting my step up card in Feb, March, April.. whenever... I will consider it a bad choice but one made just in case supply is so bad that it was the only way to get an acceptable GPU.  It was a decision I made after careful thought.. I might be wrong.. hell I might not see the step up card until next summer and maybe by then I won't want it because the 3080 Super will be out... that happens I will take it and sell it and buy a 3080 super.

There are only 2 partner brands I trust for gpu's:  ASUS and EVGA.  This entire launch was a mess and the availability of quality components is very low due to the pandemic.  I am annoyed at Nvidia and at the big partner brands.  Customers that use the equipment have been preyed on by kids running bots and gouging the price when they resell.

Depending on how this ends up for me this could be my last Nvidia based card... AMD based cards are cheaper and for the games I play now.. maybe enough.

    ---Main Rig Build ---
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, CPU Cooler: NZXT X73 360, GPU: EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra, MB: ASUS CH VIII Formula, RAM: 64GB G.Skill Trident RGB 3600, Storage:  2TB Adata M.2, 2TB WD SSD, 500GB WD SSD, Case:  Thermaltake ARGB View51

Saying "You definitely won't get a 3080 until 2021" if you use step up is misleading.  There's no way of knowing how eVGA will allocate cards, or how many they are getting each time - But you should definitely make sure you have a "backup" GPU, because you WILL be out of a GPU between the time you send the Step Up in (once they tell you to send it) and when you get the new card.
I bought a 2070 Super Hybrid with a $50 off coupon from Newegg, planning to initiate step up as soon as it arrives tomorrow.  I'm not in a huge hurry because I can just use my 1080 Ti until the 3080 (or 3090 if I decide to play a rich person) actually gets here.
If you are in a hurry, you'll probably be better off waiting for availability on etailers which should be more normal by November... I don't know if people who are applying for Step Up this late will get their cards before November, but we'll see.

If it doesn't say "Ships from & Sold by Newegg.com" don't get it from Newegg (Same for any E-tailer, if it's not direct from Amazon/Newegg etc, don't get it, 3rd party sellers do not qualify for Step Up as far as I understand).  You can link the one in question you're looking at & I can tell you more for sure.
Edit: I'm fairly certain Refurbished cards don't qualify either, but that's something I'd wait for an answer from an eVGA person or someone that has experience with those to answer.  I know they don't offer Step Up on used cards, and I'm fairly certain Refurbished from the likes of Amazon or Newegg basically means Used as far as eVGA is concerned.

I got this one when it was in stock direct from Newegg (with a $50 off code), and it's definitely eligible: https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2070-super-08g-p4-3178-kr/p/N82E16814487457?Item=N82E16814487457

As long as it's directly from Target, and has -KR in the product/Item number, you should be good to go.

If you're refering to this one: https://www.target.com/p/evga-geforce-rtx-2070-super-graphic-card-8-gb-gddr6-256-bit-bus-width-displayport-hdmi/-/A-80812741
Edit: It does not appear that AntOnline is an authorized E-tailer for eVGA according to their list.

See my edit above, AntOnline isn't listed:
    https://www.evga.com/products/wheretobuy.aspx
This one should do the trick: https://www.newegg.com/ev...1-kr/p/N82E16814487456
Edit: Just make sure it says "Ships from & Sold by Newegg.com" when you're placing the order.

    Thank you!

You are placed in the queue and you get to use the 2070 until it's your turn to upgrade to a 3080. You pay the difference in price and shipping and end up with the 3080. In my view it's a great program and stepping up to a 3080 seems to make sense unless you have a limited budget or are gaming at only 1080p. It's like getting 100% more performance though for the $250 so worth it and really the 2070 is not a bad card to use for a bit until you can upgrade.

Well I entered the step up and am using the 2070, but the only thing that came in the box is the card itself..

Sounds like you got one of those wonky cards the HW news has been talking about that certain sites are for some reason shipping eVGA cards without proper packaging... luckily that was not the case with mine.  If you received the card only & nothing else, that is not okay, I would contact eVGA customer service, or Newegg, or both, and complain.  This News was specifically about Newegg sending out cards in non-eVGA packaging or without anything else in the box besides the card...
    Was your card even sealed?

I bought a brand new 2070 super from bestbuy.com , it came in the normal retail box, but there isn't anything that needs to be in the box, besides the card itself and a small install guide.

It was sealed in the evga box with evga labelled tape.  There was just nothing else in there just a small insert..

Most cards do not come with accessories anymore.
