2017 in particular is said to have been a record-breaking year for Valve, as Steam generated $3.5 billion in 2016, meaning it saw $800 million in growth last year. The top 100 selling games on the platform made up for a massive 50 percent of that revenue. So financially Steam is doing very well and will continue to do well so long as games sales are good.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Is steam an option for consoles?
Otherwise, I’d say this is a bonus for the PC gaming industry.

Those numbers don't add up. The method of calculation is incredibly inaccurate and flat out doesn't account for sales outside of Steam which have become common. Also there is no adjustment for that Valve makes per sale compared to just the listed price. Valve is making bank from their digital trades on Steam and gambling. Actual game sales are secondary for them.
