Stanford has a lot of servers and if any of them go down on the weekend they are not fixed until the upcoming Monday (but since 4 September is a holiday it might be one extra day)

Well, my 24 hr points average is dropping at EOC but nothing else is changing. When I land two WU that only give me 1.1 million ppd on a pair of 980 ti Classified boards and my 980 boards are outperforming them it is time to call it quits because something is screwy somewhere. http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=693449

To clarify, the flat file that the Folding folks release for other stats sites is what's not updating. And unfortunately, they have specified that outside sources looking to pull stats NEED to use the flat files or possibly have their IP banned from accessing their servers. So, we need to wait for this to be fixed before we'll see my system able to draw updates as well as the rest of the third-party stats sites. And since the Folding team relies on Stanford's IT dept, which will be out until Tuesday, we're stuck waiting for them to reboot the process or server the process resides on. I'm hoping they're going to figure out how to have a more reliable system OR get a tech who can kick these things on the weekends, but I've BEEN hoping that for close to a decade now. d

It's not an obvious priority for Stanford. It's pretty sad. They have given excuse after excuse on the forums, from it's an old server, to we rely on Stanford tech support to the University is between semesters and no one is actually there. Isn't it awesome how all this important data we are providing them just isn't all that important? I mean I know the main servers are up and running, but the fact remains that this has been happening way too often lately, and the Pande Group doesn't really seem to care. We're taken for granted.

It has been reported in the Folding forum that the "flat file output" is what is not updating from Stanford. This affects only 3'd party sites, since Stanford REQUIRES them to use that to grab their stat data from.
Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding. I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Yes Quint and they've stated that the server is old and it needs to be replaced. Also stated it's a weekend and they rely on Stanford tech support as they don't have a dedicated team for [link=mailto:F@H]F@H[/link] for some reason. They've also said the school is between semesters and no one is even there. Everytime this happens it's excuse from excuse from the "support team". And as some people have pointed out, this type of attitude has been given out by Stanford for the last decade or so. It's as if they don't care how engaged the community surrounding [link=mailto:F@H]F@H[/link] is. There is a serious disconnect between the researchers and the actual users. They have no idea how important these numbers are to the rest of us, or they do, and they just don't care.

Stats are finally back online and we just had a HECK of an update across the board. Our averages are going to be borked and the charts messed up until this spike clears through. I'm glad to finally see something coming in on my stats other than a steady line of error message. d

Yeah, it was up for perhaps half a day, then splat again. There are times I think they'd be better off to let a competent outside party run their stats - especially as MINIMAL as the stats they themselves offer are.

It could be done, and I'm sure that there are a few of us here that could/would be happy to take them on a client to keep things running. The problem is getting them to do it and the lucky company to dig through their server and code base to figure out what the actual issues are. I personally find it funny that they go down this often, yet a couple of personal and client servers that have been up and running for 10+ years with around 5 unplanned outages that all either recovered on their own or their backups came up and took the load without more then a couple seconds of user interruption. Here's hoping they figure this out sooner rather than later.

Problem is that a lot of the stats I am INTERESTED in watching aren't on the actual Stanford page, or require you to get on at exactly the right time of day and do a LOT of paperwork to try to track. I'm too lazy to try to reinvent the extremeoverclocking stats site, or BOINC stats, etc.

The stats went down again, came up again (Briefly) and are down once again. Here's a quote of what I just posted over at the FF.Org forum by way of my observations of how the system is apparently presenting the data to us through the flat file. Just in case it's of interest. We got two hourly updates this time, the 2pm Eastern and 3pm Eastern, before it stopped again.
What I've been able to piece together of how this system works is that the flat file gets generated with the current timestamp in PST and then gets populated with the current hour's worth of data (Name, Points total, WUs Total, Team number for the Users and Team Number, Team Name, Points total and WU total for the Teams). It appears that the crash in this particular case is happening after the blank files get generated with the timestamp, but before the data gets inserted. The system sees a file that it then zips up and publishes the empty file and zipped archive.
However, as the process manages to complete at least a few times before the next error, this is telling me that the database itself IS indeed whole and hale, esp since we can view the data through the interactive web portal on the official stats page.
Not that any of this is really relevant to most of you, but it was fun for me to piece together over a bit of time of examining error messages and figuring out what I was doing wrong and what that meant for the backend system and how it was apparently constructed.
d
Either way, it appears we're once again at the whims of the Stanford Academic calendar as to if there is available support on hand to get the server posting again/repair the issue. d
