Square Enix wants Outriders to be its ‘next major franchise’ | KitGuru
 
This week, Square Enix finally revealed how Outriders performed at launch. During April, the game had 3.5 million unique players and on average, those players ended up putting in 30 hours of playtime each, leading to “extremely high engagement for co-operative play”.
 
Unfortunately, Square Enix didn’t provide a breakdown of players between platforms, but we do know that the game launched day-one on Xbox Game Pass, which likely helped a lot with reaching 3.5 million unique players at launch. Of course, Outriders did not have the best launch, with server issues and inventory bugs. Still, Square Enix wants People Can Fly’s co-op IP to become its “next major franchise”, indicating that expansions will be on the way. People Can Fly did not plan for Outriders to be a ‘live service’ game, instead, it looks like the developers will be taking inspiration from Diablo, with a highly replayable game that brings players back over time through big expansions.
 
I don't know if the expansion strategy will work but I guess it's worth a try.

i haven't played it yet due to insufficient hardware. What is the general opinion about the game so far?

Some people love it, most people think it's average, launch was a disaster. I've tried it and personally think it's an ok game, nothing that "wowed" me. 
If they want it to become their "next major franchise" they better update this game a lot and/or make a way better sequel, cause at launch this was mostly average.

Game Pass must have really carried this game, because I honestly haven't heard much about it, and none of my gaming groups talked about it at all. They're usually the ones that try out every big multiplayer release.

Yeah I know what you mean, I haven't seen any excitement for this game post launch.

I checked out the beta and it wasn't terrible, but nothing to hold me. A buddy at work loves it, but I thought it was generic. Also, I heard there were a ton of issues where people lost their loot, but then got it replaced with better loot by the devs? Not sure; I hope it's one of those games that gets better with time and attention.

Endless grind....AA Game Sold for AAA Price

Haven't played it too much but it was entertaining, reminds me a bit of Destiny. 

I like the gameplay and story a lot when it came out. But co-op was super painful in terms of glitches and connectivity for like 2-3 weeks after release. It just wasn't worth the hassle with the limited time and I didn't really want to play it solo. Will try again sometime, but the co-op network problems were definitely a turn off. 

It has potential(like a bunch of games at release) but it always comes down to continual support.

It didn't win me over but I know others really like it.

I guess I will try it

Have they been patching it?  During the demo I kept having issues getting behind cover which kept me from considering buying the game.

Mediocre Story.......boring endgame....Forced timetrials and garbage drop rates if you are lookin for a specific item

The entire game just looks like one giant meh, but I havnt played it so I cant really speak to much about it. Just going by look.

Those fffff.... Just do a god damn Deus Ex sequad, since you did a Mankind Devided like a half of a story. It was a nice game, but they RUINED it by microtransactions and half-ass done story. Then i ended it, i be like: "Wait, WHAT!? Thats all!?".

I mean with a little more polish I could see it.

With the cost of development no publisher really produces a game they don’t hope to become a franchise anymore.
