Some versions of Windows 10 display a notification to install the latest versionApplies to: Windows 10 Pro released in July 2015Windows 10 Version 1511Windows 10 Home, released in July 2015Windows 10 Version 1607 More
Summary
If you're currently running Windows 10 Version 1507, Version 1511, or Version 1607, you can expect to receive a notification that states that your device has to have the latest security updates installed. Windows Update will then try to update your device. When you receive the update notification, click Update now to update your device. This update is also offered directly to Windows Update Client for some devices that have not installed the most recent updates.Windows 10 Version 1507 and Version 1511 are currently at "end of service." This means that devices that are running these operating systems no longer receive the monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends that you update the system to the latest Windows version, Windows 10 Version 1709. Windows 10 version 1607 is not yet at "end of service." However, it must be updated to the latest versions of Windows 10 to ensure protection from the latest security threats. To learn more about the "end of service" status for these versions of Windows 10, see the frequently asked questions for Windows 10 Version 1507 or Windows 10 Version 1511. Not Looking Well for you Older Windows 10 Users, I cannot wait for the Joy of what others have been saying to shooting down users with I don't have that issue Looks more like a repeat of history of what happened with Windows 7, See We Do Not Learn From Our Mistakes

That is what I do as well, but without having an older Window 10 OS it is hard to troubleshoot issues between the Different Versions of Windows 10 so I kept one rig running. I have been Blocking the updates for Months now, today was the frist of this message and also the hidden install of Get Windows Update in a Security Patch. When it comes time we will most likely have an even newer version of Window 10 to install. Come to think of it maybe Microsoft should change the name and remove the overhead of how crappy Windows 10 is for Standard Desktop Users.

Remember the old days of Acronis Disk manager when we could easy quad boot windows systems ( XP,Vista, and many windows 7 systems on one PC ) Now I have to keep 3 Windows 10 systems going ( one always off line) to keep away from update problems. At least in the early days of windows 10 if we had to stay with Windows 7 we had Steve Gibson STOP 10 program.

Cordorb this may help if trying to keep track https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-info.aspx Wonder if paying the $85 per year for Windows 10 Enterprise may be less painfully :-(
Look at what you have to go through now to get say 20 Licenses, you will rethink this. I would love to see One License One User Many Computers, but this is not going to happen, Ever.

You do have your own Post of issues with Windows 10 Version 1709 so this would not apply to you. This applies to Windows 10 Version 1607 and Below.

I will be installing a fresh OS install on my last Old Windows 10 KP Rig after this month. What I like most about the Last Version is the control of Downloads 1709 took some of that away from us.

I still use Group Policy to control the updates with 1709 the same way I've been doing it with all the Win10 versions. If something has changed or been taken away, I haven't noticed it. I have all drivers disabled (never even notifies me) and as far as any other updates, I'm set up to notify me only (in the Action Center). Nothing automatic and no popups.

True, and I do the same for Drivers. Other item like App Update have changed to only Get Updates is another one that I do not care for. For Patches or Updates I still use wushowhide.diagcab and MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab I got so many hacks to stop Updates I it hard to keep up with them all. I Metered Updates still work best on the Last version I have see as well. It is just a Big Pain in The Rear to have re-setup your OS with every Windows Version update. I still like Service Packs as they Never Changed a users Profile Settings or Re-Set IE Settings as they do now under Windows 10.

I don't either. I have a lot of specific application settings and stuff that I'm just too lazy to redo every time. When it comes time to upgrade my system's hardware, including the motherboard, I'm gonna hope for the best and just uninstall drivers and replace them. If I have to re-activate with a new key, I have one ready to go. I've been made aware that the built in " sysprep" tool can be used to wipe all drivers and hardware dependencies before doing a major hardware change and make the process easier.

You are quoting a Post from 4 weeks ago and the KB has returned and what is this thread is about. Why don't you and XrayMan create a new Thread about it being that you are both running 1709 and NOT an Oder Version of Windows 10.

Replying was easier ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No need to be upset. I'm aware how old the post was, thanks. Just thought he'd like to know about sysprep.

I not upset, well a little maybe at XrayMan as I think his Posts are off topic as he is not running an older version of Window 10. sysprep has no part of Windows 10 Install when Windows Update Forces the Update to a new version of Windows. I have no idea what this means ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Messages prompting you to update Windows 10 are periodically scheduled tasks that you can Disable in Task Scheduler by right-clicking on the task. To open Task Scheduler, go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler, or press the Windows + R keys to open Run and type in taskschd.msc and click OK. In Task Scheduler, expand Task Scheduler Library in the left pane..Then expand Microsoft..Then expand Windows..Then click the UpdateOrchestrator folder..In the right pane you'll see the Update Assitant/s if you don't already have the latest feature update (version)..Disable it/them to stop update notifications. To hide (or show again) selected Windows updates, grab the wushowhide (Show or hide updates) tool here from Micro$oft..You should run the tool before running Windows Update so you can show or hide selected updates, then run Windows Update to get other updates you may need/want. So to stop Windows 10 from updating to a newer version and annoying you about it with notifications, set your internet connection to 'metered' in your internet connection properties..Then run the wushowhide tool and hide " Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709" or " Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703" or "Feature update to Windows 10, version whatever". I leave metered connection on..Otherwise, when the next Feature Update (version) comes along, it'll be auto-downloaded and installed. That should put the whammy on feature updates and notifications (as shown in post #8)..Works for me here..Have a partition with 1607 on it and get none of that after disabling the Update Assitants and hiding the feature updates. Edit/Add: To find out your current version of Windows and Build, type winver in the Search box or in the Run box.
