I might be one of the few people on the planet who thought the original was just... meh? SFX were great and all, but on the overall just thought it was ok.
(Then again, I thought Alita Battle Angel was awesome, so what do I know?!?!)

True, and I get that to an extent. I think part of my problem with it (and a lot of things, to be honest) is that the hype train just gets TOO much, where people everywhere just talk something up to the point where it can't ever meet the expectations it creates. (A bit like Cyberpunk, it seems!) There was also a BIT of an over-reliance on the CGI, couple of scenes seemed to be included just for eye candy's sake. (Similar to the Star Wars prequels which....don't get me started!!!!) Think I just need to go back and rewatch it.

Yeah I agree for sure.. even if it was great on paper the pressure gets to the directors and actors. They HAVE to succeed because failure is not an option.
Interesting thing about the human experience is there Hobbs we fear the most we end up creating for ourselves.
Try so hard to protect and manage a relationship because we fear losing it and the act of trying too hard causes the exact thing we were trying to avoid.
