Though Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds now has two maps, it does not have an option to choose which you play. While the devs do plan to add one, for now players have used sneaky tricks to get the map they want. Some disconnect from servers if the randomly-selected map isn’t what they want. And, it turns out, some make it simpler by outright removing one map’s files. The game does still run, but any time it tries to join a game on the undesired map it’ll return right to the menu. One player even made a tool to remove maps easily. It’s awkward that there still isn’t a map-select option.
Just no excuse for not allowing people to select the map they want to play.

I completely agree! I personally love both maps, BUT! since when in recent history of gaming was map selection not a thing?  I feel like weather & map selection shouldn't be a "patch later" sort of thing. But regardless PUBG is still super fun, and on the other side of the spectrum, it does add more unpredictability not being able to choose map, just sad many resort to removing game files so they can pick map. I'll be honest, my days of purchasing early access games is over, hec it's almost worse then pre-ordering AAA title games these days.

The worst part is it's not even "early access" but it still acts exactly like one. All around a devolution in game quality.

I see no reason for any game publisher to ban someone from deleting a map. It doesn't give a player an unfair advantage over other players.
