I have a few questions on Fallout 76,  and please only if you are playing now or very recently.  I came across some current youtube vids where people who used to utterly despise the game are now praising the heck out of it so it piqued my interest.   But there is one question I can't find the answer to.

So Fallout First is a paid prescription that lets you play on your own private world, ignore others and just do the story missions.    I like to play MMOs with story campaigns like SWTOR where I'll get a subscription, play as much as I can for 30 days and then cancel, and usually I'll be gone for six months before I return for another month only. Rinse and repeat.

Can I do this with Fallout 76?  If I sub and start on a private server and build a camp but then cancel the sub, will it just go inactive and it'll be there when I re-sub or will it destroy my camp and kick me over to a public server?   Thanks.

Sorry that I can't address the Fallout First thing, as I just play the game without subscription, but you can just play the game solo without having FF. The entire world doesn't save, of course, but your built-up base (C.A.M.P. in the game) will remain as you left it and return when you log back on. Been playing for about a month and never bothered to team up with anyone yet - just done a couple of opt-in Events for the rewards. You don't have to interact with other players if you don't want to.

The RNG for certain aspects of this game continually drive me away from it. Don't like the power armor at that location? Just logout and login until you get the pieces you want. It was a shrewd move to tie private game instances to the subscription. Interaction with public people in this game has always been a dumpster fire for me.

Sweet. Thanks.  I'm actually addicted right now, lol. If my furlough ends I'll have to tell my boss he's gotta wait a while ;)

Just goes to show that an amazing single player series can be a dumpster fire when poorly implemented for multiplayer.

I thougt that Bethesda will crack their teeth on F76. but they are very persistant in keeping it better. Still can't play it with joy, but will do....

Short answer: Yes. You can subscribe/cancel/resubscribe and you will not lose your camp or character progress.

Longer answer: The way camps work in Fallout 76 is by placing a C.A.M.P. 'workbench' that acts as the center of your camp. As long as you place it in a valid location, you can build in a radius around that center point.
    • You can move your camp to another location by picking it up and placing it down. If there are no collision issues in the new location, then it's essentially a cut-and-paste. If your camp doesn't fit with the terrain of the new location, you can "pack up" your camp by storing all the objects in the camp inventory and then replacing them manually.
    • Your camp follows you whether you're on a public or private server. When you log into a server, your camp will spawn on that server where you last placed it. If this spawn-in will collide with another player's camp, then you will have the choose to either pack it up or look for a new server.
    • Bethesda is also adding the option to swap between multiple camps soon.
If you ask me, the Fallout First sub isn't really worth it unless you REALLY want a private server. Players are pretty spread out on the map even on public servers, so you don't often run into them if you're not looking for them.

Agreed it’s not worth the money atm. Maybe if it had additional benefits.

IMHO it's waste of money. I played the F76 solo on normal server. I spent tens of hours there. Just ignore other players. They cannot really harm you until you also attack them. And some areas are private even in the normal world - some mission locations are private.

I keep wanting to get back into it. However, I can't stand that they added level scaling. Same reason I dropped ESO.

Yeah I'm kind of wondering what's up with the level scaling.  It almost feels like the world was balanced for level 1 to 50 and that anything above 50 is just fake and meaningless,  like levels after that point are the same as striving for an achievement.

I mean,  here I am at level 67 fighting creatures with a level 341 player, and he keeps dropping way more than me and I'm rezzing him with stimpaks.   Like I said, levels don't seem to mean anything after 50.

The major issue with F76 was console performance. Many open world PC games ported to consoles tend to have major issues(Cyberpunk 2077). Not an issue for PC owners. But it was absolutely stupid for these crybabies to rag on the gameplay. There is nothing wrong with the gameplay as F76 is basically Skyrim that you can play solo or co-op with a side dish of miniscule pvp. It's another Bethesda game, not great, but entertaining enough. Having multiplayer definitely increased the entertainment factor. Playing solo without sub is not a problem at all.

Bethesda games live and die by the community content. They don't have an active mod community in top of being a busted game

Yeah I came to learn that it's fine on a public server.   The griefing has been zero for me but one thing where a private server might be good to hop onto is those daily challenges for say "Kill 15 Mole Miners".      A couple weeks back I spent five hours trying to find them at spots where I know they are.   Either corpses or totally empty as everybody else hunting them.  When I had the subscription I could just hop on the private server to go bag them without others taking them all.

There's also the immersion factor bonus of a private world.  Not having to see "kZ9237236235189KAPOWWWWW" jumping up and down in front of me while I'm crafting in my camp.

By all accounts they cleaned up a lot of stuff in f76. But the concept just isn't great. Fallout isn't minecraft, it's supposed to have NPCs and set quests

Yeah I agree, the whole construction thing is annoying.   Buying set decorations for houses and being done in 1 minute in Oblivion and Skyrim is about as far as I like my "construction" to be.

I actually recently finished fallout 4 (first time playthrough) and I had a good time. F76 doesn't appeal to me at all.
