10 GB of VRAM is probably going to fine for 4K at very high and 1440p at ultra for the life of the 3000 series, especially with direct I/O coming.

Watch Dogs Legion System Requirements:

1440p high settings
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060S or AMD Radeon RX 5700
  • VRAM: 8GB
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel setup)
4K ultra settings
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700K
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon VII
  • VRAM: 11 GB <---
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel setup)
RTX On 1080p high settings
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel setup)
RTX On 4K ultra settings
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
  • VRAM: 11 GB <---
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel setup)

Literally just listing the 2080 TI and 2060S RAM specs right underneath the cards.

I will be shocked if Ubisoft pushed Watchdogs Legion that far north of 6GB considering the PS4 is only rocking 8GB of combined RAM/VRAM.  I will also be shocked if it requires 16GB of RAM, as barely anything I run (Including Control, MHW, HZD, Cities Skylines, CKIII) even manages to top 4 GB at all of actual use.

VideoCardz.Com are reported Nvidia will be releasing the 3080 20gb this December.

If this is true not being able to get hold of a 3080 right now may be a blessing in disguise.

It will be interesting to see how much they going to charge us for an extra 10gb DDR6x šŸ¤”

Good thing smart buyers buy EVGA and can step up to a 3080 20GB!Ā

I'm not sure if a stepped up card can be eligble for step up.

I was reviewing this and I believe the VRAM showed in the picture also reflects each graphics cards vram spec. Starting with the GTX 960 4GB version.

Nope. The Radeon VII is a 16GB card. They are listing requirements.

Much more likely is they targeted the specs of the 2080Ti for Ultra/RTX assuming that the next gen Nvidia card wouldn't have LOWER amounts of VRAM.

Seeing the 24GB 3090 is only about 7% faster what do you hope for from a 20gb 3080?  Half that difference and 3.5%?   Thats barly worth shipping your card back for the step up let alone paying a difference.

This sums up what I was about to post, also if its such a small boost for a fair sized price increase wouldn't just putting that money towards a new gpu in 2-4 years be better served? At least thats how I look at it anyway.

It's Ubisoft.  It's more likely they didn't bother actually testing it much, or used the same software we do where it just shows RAM allocation as opposed to actual use.  Also, could've just looked up whatever card is equal to a 2080 from AMD.  I'm willing to bet the game barely runs on a Radeon VII, as even AMD has given up driver support for it.

They are a company like EA or Activision, i.e. they're not going to source out higher resolution textures just for the PC port.  We've already seen in prior Watchdogs games they will downgrade the PC version so it does not outshine the console versions.  Making a higher tier PC version costs money that these big companies don't seem willing to spend unless it's a halo product like HZD.

NVIDIA Reportedly Launching GeForce RTX 3080 (20 GB) and 3070 (16 GB) in December 2020/10/09 07:42:06 (permalink)

Re: NVIDIA Reportedly Launching GeForce RTX 3080 (20 GB) and 3070 (16 GB) in December 2020/10/09 07:43:41 (permalink)
Early GeForce RTX 3080 adopters may want to prepare themselves for buyerā€™s remorse. According to VideoCardzā€™s sources, NVIDIA will be dumping coal into AMDā€™s holiday stockings by launching upgraded versions of its GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards in December.
These refreshed models will carry 20 GB and 16 GB of GDDR6X/GDD6 RAM (respectively), doubling the memory capacity of the current GeForce RTX 3080 (10 GB) and GeForce RTX 3070 (8 GB) models.
While pricing remains a mystery, weā€™re going to assume that theyā€™ll run significantly higher than the current SKUs. Itā€™s also unclear whether these 20 GB and 16 GB variants will be exclusive to third-party models or not (a previous rumor suggested that the GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition would only be sold with 10 GB of memory).
Sources are also claiming that NVIDIA has canceled the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Nobody seems to know why this model was terminated, but VideoCardz believes that the reason could relate to poor yields.
ā€œThe plans to launch 3070 Ti with 6144 CUDA cores have allegedly been scrapped,ā€ VideoCardz wrote. ā€œNo reason was provided, but we believe that yield of GA104 couldā€™ve been an issue (the PG142 SKU 0 required full GPU to be operational). Thus, we should not expect GA104-400 till SUPER refresh next year.ā€

The best thing about these kinds of rumors is the potential for easing demand on the currently available cards.  I'll happily snag a 10gb version with no remorse what so ever.

Well, assuming they do launch these cards in December, do you really think you'll be able to get one before June of 2021? lol

I have a 3440x1440 Gsync monitor, I think 10GB is more than enough.  If I can ever BUY one !\

Edit:  Makes me wonder if Nvidia is holding back a bunch of GPU chips for these new 20GB versions, to make more money.  Only time will tell.

3 weeks after fake "launch"  talking about new products is a bit irritating.
Nvidia should be quiet as their products nowhere to be found.

Good thing that if they do announce in December that's only 60 days from now. If you buy from evga this month you will be within your step up period. Get your 3080 this month, file your step up in December for the new cards, get your new card in January or February. The longer it takes to get your current 3080 card in the queue the further out your potential windows is for any rumored cards. I would gladly take my 3080 FTW3 Ultra that I'm in the queue for this month and then step up later and wait for the step up card. Yes the wait will be amazing I'm sure for step up but thats ok, you'll have a 3080 10GB card to use until then.

It might be but I think it would be too soon for them to launch an upgraded version in december while the 8gb 3070 will paper launch in the end of october. I would say spring 2021 seems more likely TBH.

Can't wait to try and test cranking everything on red dead redemption 2, gets close to 9gb but can't test that with my current card.
But with the card now it runs great on high to ultra.

Can't wait to try and test cranking everything on red dead redemption 2, gets close to 9gb but can't test that with my current card.
But with the card now it runs great on high to ultra.

I had no idea it ran that much on 1440p.  If you would have said 4K, I would have believed you but sheesh, maybe the game isn't that optimized or big game titles are looking for more VRAM to unleash.  Surely not all games are consuming that much VRAM but must be this specific title.

Yeah, I cranked everything to the max to see how high the number got I think it was like 8800 or something been a bit since I did it. Of course, I couldn't save it over the limit was just curious.
