SOLVED Like it says. I spent hours trying to install XP with out success. Tried with floppy, USB, and using nlite. Best I would get is iaStorA.sys can not be found. Other times would say iaStorA.sys is corrupt. Used drivers from intel, asrock, gigabyte, asus, evga, with results always the same. Used service pak 3 for 32 bit. So what I am I missing here?

OK, disconnect all drives except the drive you intend to use as the system drive. Then attempt another install.

This setting was required for XP on the P55 BIOS to run. Max CPUID Value Limit: [Enabled] > Disable for XP ... would assume if it is not the x79 BIOS , then XP would not work on that board... does not make since ,,, but.

Because 3DMark '03, SuperPI and WPrime all score better in XP.

There are two things I can think of. Check memory stability with Memtest to see if memory corruption is causing the install failures. Is there a memory low gap option in BIOS somewhere? If so, try adjusting that setting.

+1, but still is their any valid drivers for Windows XP with the SB-E on a X79 mobo. I can't find anything on that combination. Who would write those drivers?

Starting with X79, Intel has refused to release any more drivers for XP in AHCI mode. You have to install XP in IDE mode but this is far from ideal if you want to dual boot with Windows 7 as you would have to switch from IDE to AHCI every time and vice versa. Some guy at MSFN.org has created modded XP 32-bit drivers for X79 which supposedly make it install in AHCI mode!! Can anyone with an X79 please test these and let me also know whether XP installs in AHCI mode with F6/slipstream method on X79? X79 is the last platform where we would be able to run Windows XP as Ivy Bridge is going to completely drop XP support. If you are unable to install XP in AHCI mode on X79 using these drivers, please do let me know. I am contemplating whether to buy an X79 system, but if I cannot install XP on that in AHCI mode, I would go for the older X58 platform. Please anyone interesting in getting XP AHCI driver link for X79, please contact me: some1anywhere [at] gmail dot com.

I have seen that BSOD code before in XP x64. I had a disk that had some bad blocks and was intermittently dropping connection with the controller.

Well after much trial and error. I have success. I for got to mention this is not a Evga board. Reason that is important is no third party SATA ports on Evga X79 boards. Problem turned out to be CD/DVD drive was plugged into non intel SATA port. (as I always do since that seems to be all they are good for:) So anyway plugged CD/DVD drive into intel SATA port. XP is now installed on a RAID volume. Also special thanks to Anonymuos, who PMed and emailed to help. Funny thing is in hind sight it seems obvious. Edit: Also note that 3D mark benches will cause BSOD with asedia SATA enabled in XP. Possibly asmedia USB 3.0 ports as well. Consider your self warned. Edit again: USB 3.0 had nothing to do with issues. Having third party SATA set to ACHI was main issue, even after XP was installed.

Because newer versions are slower and less user friendly. Personally I use Server 2003, which gives me 64Gb of memory and twice the speed of XP. I also use server 2008, but only for applications not supported by 2003 (Adobe Premiere). I have unsuccessfully tried installing XP on EVGA x79 Dark ever since I bought the machine. I burned over a dozen installations CDs with various driver configurations. No luck. The only reason I need XP is because nVidia now does not make installers for servers - drivers work - installers and control panel don't. For 2008 I use driver I installed on Win7. (nVidia GTX 780)

The reason you can't install XP on an X79 is because of the memory limitation. You'll need to remove all of your ram memory and put one DIMM in it that is small in size. This thread is over 5 years old by the way.
