The overheating issue was driving me nuts. So a couple nights ago i was pissed off and desidedto crack open the cooling mat and see what the fans were up too.
One of the fans somehow lost a blade so i went to snap another blade off and brokeoff the wrong one, but fortunately i was able to snap off the other blade from the 60 degree angle of both sides.
So i had two fans an overheating laptop and a couple hours of being pissed off...
Solution? Get some tap some bottle caps and some superglue and tack the fans to the bottom of the laptop case and make some feet so they can breath

I know its probably not going to do anything but im at my wits end with this laptop.

ACtually considering im saving to build a new computer this maybe permanant.
the little feet i made make it pretty stable and the fans keep it pretty cool down, im surprised.
I tested Alice: Madness Returns lastnight which i know was a game that would grossly over heat my laptop, and it played without a stutter.
So i know at least the mod works.

I was once told that a laptop is only as good as it's warranty. The first time I had to take one apart to fix a cpu fan, I knew why that statement was made. Cool mod though. Good idea for feet.

Yeah m11x, and the heatsink  for it is just way to small and the fan doesnt pull anywhere near enough air.

    update:
    This mod works suprisingly well.
the gamethat i was havingmassive issuses with overheating(alice Madness returns) doesnt even really push the system as hard as it did before.
The way i have the fans set, they inject air directedly onto a heatsink plate, a copper heat pipe, the RAM bay(partially isolated from the rest of the computer), and the WIFI card.

The temperatures dont shoot wildly out of controll, but its evident the GPU is damaged slightly.
My frame rates are 16~17% less than they used to be.

I'm not a fan of the safety of your current setup.

Have you tried reapplying thermal paste to your CPU/GPU? I was having overheating issues with my 2 yr old HP laptop with a 4650 gpu in it. I took off the case and cleaned the fans with canned air then took off the heatsink and applied fresh Arctic Silver. This greatly reduced the temps I was previously seeing.  It might be worth trying, especially since you already have the shell off.

I think a bigger safety hazard would be tripping on all those clothes on the floor!

Some people underestimate the power of our NotePal U Series Notebook Coolers. It's a great thing to be able to move the fans to where they are needed most.

Plus, it's fairly easy to find a great price on one. Not that they are all that high priced to begin with.

I never realized how hot laptops run.
just installed CoreTemp on this on and Whoa!!

    Lenovo E-520 with i5-2520 dual core/4 thread.
running 50% load it showing 67 & 70c on the cores.   Idles at 45c.

    ouch.

I may have to invest in one of those notebook cooler thingies.

Wow, good fix. But can you move it off that table or move it around if you want!?.

By the way, I couldn't believe it was an Alienware at first. :|

    yeah i had a warrenty
But it ran out in the months of tyring to get alienware to fix the damn laptop.
I tried for MONTHS to get them to give me a brand new laptop
and they kept beating around the bush and replaced ,motherboards, gave me service calls. ect. they finally replaced the laptop within a week of the warrenty expiring and they didnt even give me the courtasy of giving me a warrenty with it.
This is the 2nd one they gave me and it had some service calls done on it as well.
I finally gave up on the service calls. and dealt with it.

Honestly it amazes me how much this little mod has changed the laptop. its now able to run any game without even pushing its main fan up to audible noise.
Where as before id be in a game for 5minutes and the fan would turn on like a turbojet
My little fans arent even blowing onto fins or anything, just the contacts for the heatsinks.

welp learned my leason, never buying an alienware ever again.
