third party seller, one with a 59% approval rating, meaning it's a scalper/price gouger reselling on newegg. Newegg hasn't changed there prices, they just allow them to sell on their site. (which isn't much better)

I heard that NVIDIA is paying the AIBs $50 per card sold to allow the AIBs to have a reduced rate at launch.  I am also hearing that prices will likely increase by end of October.

This is a common practice on store fronts when your supply is very low you raise the price to crazy high as a deterrent to would be scalpers/supply and demand while waiting for more stock. I can not think of a store front that doesn't do it...

Re: So.. I guess prices are going up? 2020/09/27 11:17:37 (permalink)
In France, prices went up a few minutes after launch at each (r)etailer. And I mean real official retailers not 3rd parties trying to sell on retailers platforms. At launch some retailers had an XC3 for 840€, while others had it for 920€. 1h after launch and stock just gone, prices went up to 940€ for an XC3. In case you're wondering, that's almost 1100$ for the lower tier of EVGA cards, while XC3 on EVGA real price is 770€ (just below 900$). All retailers adjusted to around the same inflated prices.

You're lucky to have real retailers not inflating the price the same way mines are doing here, I truly don't wish that on you when retailers try to scam you while manufacturers themselves don't increase price whatsoever and retailers just try to make a profit by pinning it on the capitalism, while they just can't assume they are the issue and reason the prices inflates. EVGA prices didn't inflate despite the demand, so why would retailers do ? Because they can, because they want to increase margin and make money.

To my knowledge, Amazon.fr and EVGA's Store (and maybe Zotac ?) are the only ones not inflating the prices, in France anyway. Can't speak for other countries.

Usually, MSRP in France often get the same (or very close) digits for price as US, but in €. 700$ for a Founders Edition was 720€ for example in France, despite 720€ being just below 840$. That counts for any and every product to my knowledge, especially since VAT taxes are more expensive in EU than in US. But that's MSRP prices, and retailers are not obliged to follow them, sadly.

To answer your question upfront, yes, sadly, people are not only buying but everyone's rushing onto them. Myself at first bought a XC3 for 840€, then canceled my order when I pressed the retailer for questions and he admitted he didn't even had stock and I could be waiting weeks, so I said screw that, I thought I was paying 840€ (+ shipping !) because it was already on its way and cost more because of fast delivery. But that wasn't the case and like I said, hours after I bought it, the card went up to 940€. I'm very happy with my canceled order because if I'm to wait weeks, I'd rather wait without being screwed and just buy it on EVGA's own store, where for the same price (840€) I could even get the FTW3 Ultra and reward them directly. Plus there's the associate codes discount which lowers the price and can then even mean " free delivery " since it will be around 40€ rebate.

FTW3 Ultra is just shy to 1000€ if you're curious (1163$). Strix around that price too, sometimes even higher by 50€. Still talking retailers real prices.

Not to mention stocks in the EU was / is still very, very low. So retailers jumped on that bandwagon to justify furthermore their pricing.

That is crazy...but it sounds like you have a good plan of buying through EVGA. Hopefully they release stock on their EU site soon! Good luck!

I think the way supply and demand is, it could be a strong possibility that the price will go up. Especially with scalpers creating it artificially.

Once stock comes back there will be normal prices again. These prices are just scalpers...

Re: So.. I guess prices are going up? 2020/09/27 12:39:42 (permalink)
I really despise the way Newegg and Amazon represent their items. There is no effective way to screen out third party sellers.. Amazon even has an EVGA store, which, in my opinion, should only list cards Amazon stocks directly from EVGA.

Maybe I'm spoiled, I swear back in the day when you shopped a site you were shopping from stuff they had stocked, and they had a separate resellers area where you could go for 3rd party stuff.. Now that they've integrated them, you have to really take the time to read the fine, two point font print on every order page.  I've even ordered stuff from Amazon that said sold and shipped from Amazon for it to most likely run out and when I got to the checkout page it switched to a third party seller with the same price, but fulfilled by Amazon.

While on most items that's not much of an issue, but for nuanced things like the EVGA step up program with strict requirements, it can screw somebody over and cause tons of confusion.

It is the wave of the future (or the now).  They have to compete with the other marketplaces that are offering drop-shipping and similar secondary market sales.  I fear it is with us for the foreseeable future.  If only the shoe scalpers had realized that while shoes don't require serious warranty and RMAs, cards do.

Sucks if the price increases. Means I should get one early then do Step Up if 3090ti comes out.
