This sounds wrong to me.  That I spend $900 on the EVGA site.  I order 2 day shipping, yet the card sits waiting for pickup for two days.. so I get it in four days.  Then the card arrives, lasts a week, and red lights on me.  This seems to be a common problem with 3080s and 3090s from EVGA.  So they tell me to ship it back and send me the info... yet I have to pay another $40 in shipping... and that is ground UPS with insurance which EVGA recommended.  Is this a normal practice of companies?

If you call them up and speak nicely with them, letting them know how little use that you got out of this and how long it took to get there, they might send you a shipping label.

They don't have to, but I've gotten them to do that for me in the past when a component didn't last very long before going kaput.

I agree with arestavo, sometimes you have to pick up the phone and speak to someone. eVGA has outstanding levels of customer service, they care about their customers.

Thanks, good suggestions.  I assumed when they know they sent defective cards out, the right thing would be to replace it at no cost to the consumer.

I've been exactly where you are many years ago and remember being upset at the time too.  It stinks having to put your old card back in and wait.  But I paid the shipping and ultimately became happy with the warranty, step ups and all the customising you can do to the card that doesn't void your warranty, that I'll never even look at another GPU company again.

Have fun dealing with any other companies warranty department.

The shipping back is a small price to pay....the headaches associated with others bothers me far more.

Owned Gigabyte, Nvidia, Zotac, PNY, and MSI over the years... never had one fail until now.  I guess you do need good customer support if your cards fail. I heard so many good things about EVGA I thought it would be the best company to buy from.  And it may be, I am not on other brand forums, they could be having the same issues..... or worse.  I am happy with their customer support being timely.... I am not happy with having to pay extra due to an issue on their part, and I am not impressed with Precision X1.  Maybe my replacement will be fine, but these stories of people getting a 2nd defective card scare me a little.

A lot of problems with the 30 series stem from having a PSU that can't handle the transient power spikes (such a widespread problem that someone made a list of known good PSUs). Other folks had bad cables (mostly using aftermarket cables that had too thin wire).

And then there are genuinely some that just poop out after a bit, as there always will be.

Well, if EVGA know what causes these issues, and there is something we as users and consumers can do to avoid dead cards, I wish they would tell us.  The tech I talked to offered no information on the cause.... only said RMA after hearing one red light.

No way they could over the phone.

They have to have the card in hand to see what the problem is etc.

This is why I always get Advanced RMA, less down time and they pay shipping, that is if your in the lower 48 states.

The best customer RMA experience is the one you do not need to send it back, you might say. In more than ten years I had to RMA only a ram sticks and the shop didn't had in stock so they refunded me and I bought the exact same one lol.
Other products are either fine or died after warranty expired so no RMA possible anyway.
Though customer support doesn't limit itself to RMA as we can see with the red / black lip, the VRM issues of 1080 or the queueing put in place by EVGA. Requested a vrm pad when needed, got one, installed it, called it a day. Card is still slightly OC with power +112% (or 120 can't remember) and is just a peach. Even got it watercooled at some point, under 50°c was awesome. Pump broke so back to aircooling for now.

Anyway enough rambling. RMA Sucks good luck to the OP.
