Im building a system and debating on the Money sweet spot of a graphics card.

How do you know what card is "better"  Even then .. how do you identify each GPU?  Generally speaking IM looking the newest RTX20 series.

SO I first looked at price points 500-650  then 750-800   EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC HYBRID GAMING, 08G-P4-3178-KR, 8GB GDDR6, WATERCOOLED @ $589 and then looked at EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER XC ULTRA GAMING Video Card, 08G-P4-3183-KR, 8GB GDDR6, RGB LED, Metal Backplate.

TO complicate it more I looked at 08G-P4-3178-KR vs 08G-P4-3183-KR and found many other cards with similar part numbers.

How do you know what is the latest card for 2060 , 2070 , 2080?

Even then it seems some 2070's can outperform a 2080?

Should I looked at ram?  6GB vs 8GB vs 11GB to determine GPU performance?

Easy. The most expensive is the top card.

Also highest ram is 11GBs currently. Get that for 2k or 4k monitors.

What are you going to do with the PC ?

Web search for "Reviews" for the GPU & the monitor resolution you want to use

[sample search] --->   2070 Super & 1440 & Review

The Amount of RAM required is directly tied to Monitor Resolution & number of monitors being used

All the Super Versions are a Newer edition to the RTX lineup & 16XX

All Ti versions are top of that family of cards

Last build was over 10 years ago.  Built 1000's of machines in the 80's and 90's. Now my kids are teenagers and want to build a machine for gaming.  They were invited to join a gaming club and compete. Ive budgeted 2500.

Went to Newegg and Microcenter to compare.

The specs provided are the same.  How do you know the 08g-p4-3287-kr or 08G-P4-3288-KR  OR OR 08G-P4-3289-KR is better than a EVGA Black Gaming GeForce RTX 2080 Super Dual-Fan 8GB GDDR6 PCIe Video Card ?

I believe you know the best out there ... How did you figure it out?  For instance 08G-P4-3288-KR  compared to  08G-P4-3289-KR .  IS cooling that impiortant?  IF so why not spend money on a liquid cooled GPU / CPU kit with multi 360mm coolers with a full tower server case?  Maybe a heatpump for a wine cooler and set on the 360 cooler ?  Then get a GPU and overclock it

Yes, temps are important. Liquid cooled cards will maintain their boost clocks more consistently than air cooled cards. Liquid cooled cards will also boost higher straight out of the box due to the lower temps. The FTW3 models also include higher power limit vbios's which will give the card better overclocking potential, and will allow the card to boost even higher when compared to the black models.

All the SUPER cards are fundamentally the same except for the FTW3 versions.

The normal supers may have different cosmetics, coolers and slightly different boost clocks, but they all share the same binned chips with the same random overclock potential, reference PCB and power limits.

The FTW3 have a custom PCB, very good cooling and MUCH MUCH higher power limits which increases their overclock potential especially with the upgraded cooling.  The FTW3 130% (351w) power limit is critically important as it's the only (easy) way to get a considerably higher power limit on the super cards, however the 117% (292w) limit on the 2080S Black is effectively the same as the normal 2080 XC 130% (292w)

This is what makes the 2080S FTW3 Hybrid so attractive, especially for under $800.  The FTW3 2070S Hybrid and 2080S / 2070S FTW3 air cooler versions are worth looking at too.

If you're not into running a high power overclock with the optimized cooling to support it, the normal cards will run pretty much the same as the FTW3, stock for stock.

If you're comparing the 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra with the 2080 Ti XC Ultra, the differences are a bit smaller.  The FTW3 has a higher power limit though not by as much (373w vs. 338w), slightly larger cooler, custom PCB and considerably higher stock boost clock.  The price premium is substantial on the Ti though and might not be worth the difference.

So the sweet spot today is the 2080S FTW3 Hybrid  which is identified as EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FTW3 HYBRID GAMING, 08G-P4-3288-KR, 8GB GDDR6, RGB LED Logo, iCX2 Technology, Metal Backplate For $810 before rebate?

IS 08G-P4-3288-KR easy to overclock?  I got a hell of a deal on a Corsair RTX 2080 water cooler 75 open box.

Below is me looking around for a "better" deal.

CAN you compare EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 FTW3 ULTRA, OVERCLOCKED, 2.75 Slot Extreme Cool Triple + iCX2, 65C Gaming, RGB, Metal Backplate, 08G-P4-2287-RX, 8GB GDDR6 new $810 to
EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FTW3 HYBRID GAMING, 08G-P4-3288-KR, 8GB GDDR6, RGB LED Logo, iCX2 Technology, Metal Backplate $710 B stock ?

What is the defining nature of 2287 vs 3288 ?  IS it a incremental batch number demonstrating a newer GPU?

What has changed in 10 years - --> is Nvidia at a Firmware/BIOS level has built in Boost 4.0 (20 series cards ) & They Have Locked the BIOS as on Each reboot the BIOS Must pass Validation checks.

1) Boost 4.0 (was 3.0 for 10 series cards like 1070)
This is an Automatic Run the cards as Fast as the algorithm will allow - Based on: Temp, Watts, Load (demand)
The algorithm will start to slow the MHz based on   the Temp mostly --> & Only if the Load needs it
You can Not Brute force OC any more --> "Boost Has the Last Word"
OC software like EVGA Precision X1 can allow you to coaxes the last bit of performance from your card

2) EVGA
     - Only guarantees the Advertised MHz on their Cards
    -  Offers a Step-Up if you decide you want a better card EVGA Step-Up
     - Offers an Optional 5yr or 10 yr Extended Warranty EVGA Extended Warranty
    -  Allows the Customer to Change TIM, thermal Pads or Coolers --> As long as you do not cause Physical damage to card --
note: card Must be sent back in Stock condition ..... if there is a warranty claim in the future
     - Transferable "Secondhand" Warranty ... check Terms ... based on ending alpha numeric - of Serial Number - EVGA Warranty

GPU Boost 3.0: Finer-Grained Clockspeed Controls - The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 & GTX 1070 Founders Editions Review: Kicking Off the FinFET Generation

How much VRAM do you really need at 1080p, 1440p and 4K?

B-Stock has Only a 1 yr Warranty .... is Not New .... does Not qualify for Step-Up or Extended Warranty ... No Secondhand Warranty

FYI: The Compare Button will work even when you change the product page between GPU families - 2287 vs 3288

PCI Slot Size: is one of the biggest differences besides the hybrid cooler & Warranty

3288 is Dual Slot / Hybrid

2287 - is a wider 2.75 Slots / RX = B-stock / Longer card @ 11.89 inches (vs the Hybrid 11.45 in)

08G-P4-2287-KR

IS 08G-P4-3288-KR easy to overclock?  I got a hell of a deal on a Corsair RTX 2080 water cooler 75 open box.

Below is me looking around for a "better" deal.

CAN you compare EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 FTW3 ULTRA, OVERCLOCKED, 2.75 Slot Extreme Cool Triple + iCX2, 65C Gaming, RGB, Metal Backplate, 08G-P4-2287-RX, 8GB GDDR6 new $810 to
EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FTW3 HYBRID GAMING, 08G-P4-3288-KR, 8GB GDDR6, RGB LED Logo, iCX2 Technology, Metal Backplate $710 B stock ?

So you bought a Corsair RTX 2080 water block for $75?  That's for reference cards only, no FTW3.

The 08G-P4-2287-RX is a NON-super card and is older.  Mostly the same as the super version, but the super has a TU104 with full core count and faster memory.

To use the water block, buy the cheapest NON-FTW3 2070S or 2080S you can get your hands on.

Yes, tell us which waterblock you did purchase from Corsair because you will be limited to which GPU you can install it on.  FTW3s are out of the question if this is the case.

This is the block you're referring to.  I would get a hold of Corsair CS to get a better answer but I think the current block you have should work with most reference non-SUPER EVGA RTX 2080s.  So FTW3s are out of the question and possibly reference GPUs with iCX2 sensors but I'am not 100% sure as I think you'll get the best answer from Corsair on their compatibility list as they designed the block.

I mean it's all a guessing game as we could tell you which GPU to get but trying to save you the headache of returns.  In my gut I believe I know what works but I always double check to save time and hassle.

Okay gonna buy the the 2080S FTW3 Hybrid  which is identified as EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER FTW3 HYBRID GAMING, 08G-P4-3288-KR, 8GB GDDR6, RGB LED Logo, iCX2 Technology, Metal Backplate For $810 before rebate.  Should I consider the 08G-P4-3289-KR for about $30 more?

I was considering a hydro cool system but the extra $30 might be just as good with the 08G-P4-3289-KR?  Your thoughts?

Stick with the hybrid unit unless you plan to setup a custom water loop in your system.

The hybrid with a second fan on the radiator for push pull and in an air in-taking position will have performance very close to a hydrocopper in a basic entry level custom loop with a 240mm rad for both the cpu and gpu.

Stick with the hybrid and add a second fan for push pull.  Mount rad in the front of your case.

If you're looking to build a custom water cooling loop than the $30 Hydro Copper GPU is worth it.  If not, the maintenance free all-in-one sealed hybrid GPU is best.

What I really meant to ask was are the FTW3 cards the same as the EVGA RTX 2080Ti Ultra (not the super)?
Sorry for the confusion on my part.

I may have answered your question in an earlier post, but further clarification is in order.  "FTW3" and "Ultra" are some of EVGA's model/feature designations:

XC: Typically a higher clock and sometimes binned chips

XC2: Added temp sensors, custom PCB but normal size

Ultra:  Typically an extra thick cooler heatsink that covers 3 slots, at least on higher RTX cards, but usually a normal size PCB

FTW3: Custom extra large PCB, higher power limits, higher boost clocks, additional temp sensors and fan header, etc.  Current FTW3 cards can have an Ultra, Hybrid or Hydrocopper cooler.

There are 2070, 2080, 2080 Ti, 2070S and 2080S versions of these.
