Scalpers are struggling to sell RTX 4080 GPUs, even at MSRP. It is not secret anymore that RTX 4080 is a poor sell. This overpriced high-end GPU has been met with cold response from the gaming community and even NVIDIA enthusiasts. Both equally tired of 2 years of PC hardware shortages and overpriced GPUs.

With the release of new cards, everyone was counting on something more affordable to appear soon. But what NVIDIA did instead was to cancel the cheaper $899 RTX 4080 12GB model essentially leaving both available RTX 40 GPUs at $1200+ price range. The gamble to buy RTX 4080 at launch has not paid off for scalpers. One of them who purchased six RTX 4080 graphics cards is now selling each card at MSRP (actually still a bit higher), but there is a good reason why. Retailers have enough stock of RTX 4080 cards for gamers to consider paying just a little more to get full warranty. Furthermore, the scalper still needs to pay for the shipping of the cards back to the retailer, not to mention any possible restocking fees.

The problem of scalpers retuning cards has become so big that some retailers are now removing the option to apply for refund.

With more RTX 4080 cards coming to the market each day, and the imminent launch of Radeon 7900 series, scalpers will have to make a tough decision, either to return the cards they never should’ve bought (while they still can) or sell them at a loss.

I hope scalpers lose some money on these cards.

I saw a video pointing out how a few sellers on eBay had sold 20-30 Founders RTX 4090 at insane prices.
how are they getting such a large supply.

Too bad so sad karma s payback.😼

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Simple, the seller doesn’t have them, and puts extremely long ship times and then uses stock photos, hoping they can get some to fulfill orders before people request a refund because they don’t get their cards. It’s the same tactic as those listing the product at the exact moment the sales actually start. Just because a sellers says, doesn’t mean the seller actually has.

eBay even protects people like that by not allowing users to leave feedback after a sale is cancelled.

While it is easy to get mad at the scumbag scalpers for what happened with 30 series, we need to remind ourselves that Nvidia is fully at fault for this nonsense.  Chip shortages cannot be blamed this go around and it was Nvidia themselves who said they were only going to have a limited release of 40 series (essentially a green light to scalpers).

RDNA3 cannot get here soon enough and I am predicting shelves to be stocked back up with 4090's and reduced costs on 4080's sometime at or around Dec 13th.

If not, Nvidia will get punished in market share.

That would make for a fun future tactic against scalpers.

At the same time profit is made off of making a product that people consider hard to find. Finding a 4080 for MSRP isn't that impressive right now but go back a year and lets say you stumble across a 3080 at MSRP it seems like a great find. While I hate scalpers I feel that the talk about scalpers over the 30XX series really what people talked about most with that generation.

I will have a hard time buying another new NVIDIA GPU, used maybe. I don't care how good they are. I've had every top tier NVIDIA card since GeForce 6800 Ultra up to 2080 Ti mostly EVGA. Now that EVGA is out, so am I. The 3090 in my rig sig I bought used put the best waterblock on it I could find and all in for under $1000. You can't tell me with games coming out now people won't need to turn down the eye candy to get better FPS even with a 4090. We compromise all the time. So, I compromised with my 2080 Ti until I found a deal on a 3090. Screw the Green man. I have moved into the camp of cost to performance ratio. Looking real hard at 7900XTX (999 msrp) it may not beat a 4090 but I don't care. Compromise I will. I'll save when I buy it, on my electric bill and upgrade cost. More importantly I'll be sending a message to NVIDIA so maybe they can get back on track.

I am also open to AMD in a way I haven’t been in a number of years. It used to be NVIDIA and AMD being pretty close in price with NIVIDA being better performance but that has changed over the years. I will be waiting for the final numbers to come out but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if AMD comes out on top when you consider MSRP price to performance.

Without Evga making Nvidia, I will be making the move back to AMD. The Nvidia tax has gotten out of hand. To many shady business practices from Nvidia. At this point i would even support Intel before purchasing another Nvidia product. I hope Nvidia and all scalpers go bankrupt. I know it will not happen but they will not get my cash anymore

Agreed. I'm going to do that thing I push other people to do and speak with my wallet. I'll just sit on this 3080ti until something that actually is worth the money they're charging is available. I'm currently not seeing that happening unless either a 4090ti or 7950XT comes out...with a water block on it already...and a warranty (and on a sale in Nvidia's case). With EVGA out of the game, I can't block any card and keep its warranty. Not that I could find anyway. Every other brand I looked at voids the warranty when you do that and I'm not willing to immediately void the warranty on a card that draws 600W and costs $2k. No way. There's just too much risk there and there's no resale value either. At least with EVGA cards you had a warranty and a second-hand warranty to pass on. If I can get whatever the refreshed 7900-series card is with a water block already on it with a warranty, that sounds like the only card on the horizon I'll consider at this point.
