Please correct me if I am wrong, but I wanted to point out that it appears the EVGA NU needs the 3.3v power from the SATA power cables.

If you are planning to buy a dressed extension cable, insure that it has 5 wires and not 4. The ones with 4 only have the 12v and 5 volt power and not the 3.3v meaning the card will not power up. I purchased a nice braided cable and I didn't notice till after it would not work that it did not have the 5th wire for the 3.3v and the card would not power up.

 Edit: corrected voltages.

Yes, Molex only provides +12V (yellow) and +5 (red), and won't have the needed +3.3V (orange). However, some PSUs may not have 3.3V on the SATA, but this is particular to some server-class ones. Some enterprise-level drives will not spin up if they detect 3.3V from the power connection.

    Essentially correct.

The NU Audio card does require the 3.3V from the SATA, or it will not function.  From our own testing with a few different molex to SATA adapters, the worst that we've seen is only that the card will fail to turn on if it's missing the 3.3V power from the adapter.

Woo hoo! Thanks for this! I used a molex adapter when I first tried the card last night and was sad. Now I just have to venture into the basement to see if I can find a long SATA power cable for my power supply.
