Samsung Magician Software 7.2.1.980 has been released
Samsung Magician Software for Consumer SSD (3) (download page) The Magician SSD management utility is designed to work with all Samsung SSD products including 470 Series, 750 Series, 830 Series, 840 Series, 850 Series, 860 Series, 870 Series, 960 Series, 970 Series, 980, 980 PRO Series, 990 PRO Series, T5 Series and T7 Series. This software is not compatible with other manufacturers' SSDs. https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/magician/ (information page) I took the plunge & installed it in one Rig --> No issues to report  Though I've looked, the release notes have eluded me on Samsung's site?

Thanks for the heads-up.  I did see the release notes from the download page you linked above , but only for the previous version. Maybe they haven't added the latest to the page yet?

yes, I would agree .... seems to be the way of Samsung - release notes lag the updates just put in our update, we will tell you later why you should & what we have changed or added  the good news, post update, my laptop still works

May have an impact on performance: > benchmark from 26th was previous version with only updates, drivers, magician, 3D Mark, and Precision X1 installed > benchmark from the 28th was with system as it is now - 107GB used space & after installing Samsung NVMe drivers to run full diagnostic on the 970 EVO Plus before putting it in my ebay auction. > Benchmark today with the new version of Magician - recovered some lost random write performance from the Samsung drivers, but the other benchmarks show a 6% or more drop in performance with the new version.

Removed current version & went back to 6.3 (bottom), then updated to 7.0.0(middle), then again to 7.0.1 (top) :

Most likely bugs or security, I doubt it's for new hardware, maybe they're trying to fix the issue where 990 Pro is showing decreased life expectancy, but I would think that would be a firmware fix since it shows in other software... There's no way on Earth I should have 3.7TB of writes after less than 1 week of very light usage. My 980 drive has less than 2TB of writes after almost 2 years of pretty limited usage.

Because Samsung want to be sure people . They ar dying with older firmware :) Samsung going down the drain regarding QC and quality. Even their latest and greatest . Yep, Samsung should stop brand their newer ssd's with the Pro moniker. They are cheap consumer junk now Be sure you have latest firmware. Better with slower drives (if newer firmware reduce performance) than dead drives :) Samsung Issues Fix for Dying 980 Pro SSDs Edit. Can't insert links. Not enough posts. But check with Tomshardware and Neowin.

That's close to what I am getting on the 990 as well. A bit faster, but not much.
