Safe/okay to use extra PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cable with my PSU?

I have purchased a number of EVGA 850W P2 and above Power Supply Units (PSU) over the last year. I have a question about the cabling, but let's use the 850W P2 to clarify and be specific. On my 850W PSU, I have 3 VGA slots but only two PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cables are supplied, in addition to two PCI-E 8(6+2)-Pin cables. What I am wondering is, if I purchase from EVGA a third PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cable, is it safe/okay to plug in and use that power cable with the other two cables 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cables? I am powering graphics cards from these VGA slots that sit on powered riser cards and prefer to use PCI-E 8(6+2)-Pin cables (power the riser card with the 6-pin and plug the 8 pin into the graphics card itself) than a SATA cable to power the riser and a separate 8(6+2)-Pin cables to power the riser.

I read the manual, and it's a bit vague. It says only use cables that were shipped with the EVGA and then the following table is provided, but that's about it.:

So in summary, my question is:  If I buy another PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin is it safe/okay to use it with the VGA3 slot while simultaneously using the other two PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cables (that accompanied the PSU) in VGA1 and VGA2?

Please let me know what you guys think.  Thank you!

    Welcome to the forums.

Yes, that's fine, but keep reading..The reason it says to only use cables that were shipped with the unit is because the pinout can be different on the PSU end of connectors between different makes/models of PSUs, but the component end connectors are industry standard..There is no industry standard pinout for the PSU end..Cables compatible with an EVGA 850W G2 are shown here in the Compatibility tab..You can Contact EVGA about buying extra individual cables or you can get them from places like CableMod, use their CableMod Configurator..You can also get PCIe adapter cables such as SATA-to-PCIe and Perif-to-PCIe and 6 pin-to-8 pin, etc. if you search around but it's better to just get the right cable.

You can't post links until after 10 posts, but if you leave off the https:// part of the URL, that'll work.

Yes you might be able to.......  you'll have to monitor & limit the load on your PSU - stay in spec.

You do not mention a lot of important details -- We like details of the Rig, watts can depend on hardware & OC settings

    - PSU pin-out can be specific to Any Brand or Model --> that is why you NEED cables made for your specific PSU

Thanks guys.  To clarify, I'm powering MSI ARMOR RX 470 8G OC Graphics cards (also on a separate rig RX 580 and RX 580).  I have a 1200W P2 powering 6 + the motherboard and CPU (i-3 6300) of them and another 850W P2 powering 3 additional ones.  All the risers are 6-pin powered boards (Version 7).  I have all my PSUs connected to a wattage meter to ensure that I don't exceed the wattage of the PSU itself.  I think each card draws about 150W at the wall (which is the GPU plus the powered riser).  Based on this, does I think my best bet is to simply purchase additional PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cables directly from the EVGA and use these?

    Thanks.

Yeah, get cables from either EVGA or CableMod.

    Hi,
    I have EVGA 1200w P2 PSU.
I am trying to power 4 GTX 1080 TI on my rig.
I have the following cards on my rig.
EVGA 1080TI SC2 using 1(8pin) and 1(6pin) connectors (PSU VGA)
ASUS 1080TI STRIX using 2 (8pin) connectors (PSU VGA)
Gigabyte 1080TI Aorus using 2 (8pin) connectors (PSU VGA)
    EVGA 1080TI FTW3 NEED 2 8pin connectors and only have 1 left.

How do I power the second 8pin on the FTW3?  Only open connections left on the PSU are CPU2 and Peripherals.

    Thanks for any help.

Replace your two 6+2 + 6 cables with two dual 6+2 cables from cablemod.

    Hi there,
I have a very similar question. In my case it is a Supernova 1300 G2. I want to power a Bitmain L3+ miner (consumes ~800 watts), and the two PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cables are not enough, I need one more of those. Practically I have one (from a similar EVGA PSU) but before trying out I would like to know and to make sure it won't hurt anything if I use my PSU with 3 pcs of PCI-E 6-Pin and 3 pcs of PCI-E 6-Pin + 8(6+2)-Pin cables (instead of 4+2 pieces).
    Thanks for your input!
