So, I have a new Z270 FTW K. It's not a bad board, though I am disappointed I can't populate either m.2 slot without losing SATA ports I need. I had to use an m.2 card that came with an ASUS motherboard I have. I may switch back to that motherboard since it allowed me to put the m.2 on the board without losing anything but a SATA Express port. Not sure why EVGA couldn't disable the useless SATA Express ports instead of needed SATA ports when using onboard m.2. Will probably end up using the FTW K in my server instead to replace my aging AM3+ board and CPU.

My other disappointment is that the heatsink on the VRMs is way too big. I had to turn my Cryorig R1 Universal vertical to install it. Is it safe to remove the VRM heatsink or would I have to keep it on or not overclock? I don't know why EVGA felt the need to make the heatsink so big as opposed to adding more fins which would have been more effective for heat transfer. Are there any heatsinks I could buy to replace the stock heatsink?

I am not sure if moving the heatsink would void your warranty so please contact EVGA tech support.

Running the board with the vrm heatsink removed isn't a smart idea. Leave it on.

You should not lose any Intel Sata ( 0-1-2-4-3 ) ports if you only use the TOP M.2 s  slot on the MB.
If I'am looking at the chart right ?  you only lose the Key-3 M.2 socket (ie for  wifi/Bluetooth card)

All the trouble with large air cooling and memory chips cause me to finally just go easy water CPU cooling ie all in one.
