well.  Im at 22 hours with diskpart clean all.  The cursor is still ticking!  LOL.   I've probably wasted more in electricity than the price of a new drive.  Bake it.    Hmmm. Think my wife wants that in her oven?

LOL, nooooo... don't put it in the wifeys oven or you might as well start packing now.  All you need is a old junk toaster oven that is only for that purpose cause food cant go into it after you bake pcb's, that's what most use. Its a last resort idea anyway, after you try to hookit back up to the office rig it came from and if you try the dban, everything has failed and your one step from the garbage. Ive never done a ssd or heard of one being done so it would be cool to see what happens at least.

I don't have much experience with RAID, but I can't believe that overwriting any drive with randomized 1's and 0's would not work, RAID or otherwise. RAID can't just magically turn a hard drive into some type of new piece of hardware. It's still all binary data. Something else is wrong with the drive.

I agree with putting back in raid array push Y to delete array may work if not get another one there are cheaper now good luck.

Only thing I have left is to take it to work and put it in the original computer the raid was set up.  So at this point, nothing.  I'll try on Monday.

It should work!

But if it doesn't and you decide you're done trying to 'revive' the drive, instead of burning or trashing it just keep it somewhere so you'll be able to try something else one day when you feel for it.
When you find a solution (other than rebuilding an array, then you will have acquired the knowledge and technic and know what to do if it happens again, for yourself or somebody else.

Well.  I tried the array.  The z77 MB saw it as part of a stripe.  I went into the bios gui for raid and removed the array and it did not take when I went back in after a reboot.   Still saw it as an array and a raid disk. I tried to create a new array and couldn't.  Tried  all the settings and nothing would stick.  So then I took it back home and did a diskpart  Clean all and after 48 hours it just blinked.  So  I rebooted the computer and tried a long format.   Went out of town for 3 days for the Easter holiday and saw that it said formatting after 72 hours.    It's toast.  I'll throw it in a drawer and maybe someday, something can wake it up.  But they aren't that expensive at 500 GB.  I was just going to put it in a USB 3.0 enclosure and use it for fast backups.

I really like that sentence! 🤓👍

Kudos for having tried that hard even if the drive isn't worth a lot.
And also for keeping it as it might become interesting one day just to try new possibilities.

Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNUsoangGFs

tl;dr version: you might be able to just swap the electronic PCB on the drive with a matching pcb and go from there; or in the case of an SSD, (because that's what we're talking about), some part on the PCB anyway, which is somewhat less simple, or flash it, firmware update/rollback, etc... Or you can pack it up and send it to someone, but that costs money to actually do the recovery, so unless it's still cheaper than the drive, it's only worth it if you really have something you're hoping to recover off of it. It's been awhile since I watched it, but it's actually a decent dive into data recovery.

Something else you could try if you're feeling adventurous. Get some conductive Foil tap and a piece of copper wire about 3 feet long, and pull the SSD apart. Cover the entire PCB contact surface in the foil tape and use it to fix part of the bared copper wire to it, then earth ground the wire for a couple hours. Pull the tape and wire off and clean the PCB with alcohol, put the SSD back together and see if it works.

Never tried it, but you never know. Might just need to discharge static, or ground out the PCB. Or maybe it's just reached EoL. Though, the fact that it stopped working after being part of a RAID array suggests it's not EoL, but that there's another issue. I recall recovering a drive once that stopped working after being part of a RAID Array, but it required rebuilding the Array with the original drives, then deleting the Array iirc, on the same motherboard. That was a long time ago however, so I can't recall the exact process I used; just that I used the original motherboards RAID configuration utility.

Here's something that might be worth a reading, check out the 2 answers at the bottom of the page.
