This is a rather disturbing thing to read. About SSD companies changing the internals in their SSD drives to inferior items , after review samples are sent out ... https://www.tomshardware.com/news/adata-and-other-ssd-makers-swapping-parts Would you like to know exactly what the SSD you’re buying is capable of when you purchase it at retail? Unfortunately that’s becoming more difficult because some SSD manufacturers are now changing not only the NAND flash but also the SSD controller after the original products have been released and reviewed, but they aren’t disclosing that practice to customers. We’ve dug into the matter and tested three different versions of one SSD and found big differences in performance, but the SSDs all come with the same product name, number, and sticker on the drive.

You would hope that some sort of law would require labeling of hardware revisions Maybe if enough customer boycott that type of activity the Mfg will fall inline & start marking the labels reflect reality - changes - Version Control

Hard to know who, what, when though.... The slower performance is not just disappointing to see, but because of the pairing and firmware configurations, the newer revisions would not have likely made it onto our list of the best SSDs. Or if they landed there, they wouldn't have remained as long as the original model did. And for those buying the drive now based on our original review, there's no real way of knowing whether you're buying version one, v2, or v3. Heck, there could be more versions out there that we don't even know about. And with other companies starting to pull similar tricks, it's tough to say for sure exactly what you're getting at all -- unless you opt for a company like Samsung, which makes its own flash and controllers, so doesn't have the same worries about component supply.

It seems it is up to the buyer to Test their new purchase & compair their results to launch reviews

Is there any type of software available that would give a deep look at what parts are inside? Like GPU-Z does, or similar. That's too bad that they feel the need for this.

no idea if these will go deep enough to give all chip details - but hey they are good Free tools to have I know Belarc Advisor can read ... HD .. serial number & rev information Speccy shows HD serial & Firmware Version Number Speccy - Fast, lightweight, advanced system information tool for your PC. Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, network inventory, any missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, security benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser

Oh, god, that's not good at all. This must be illegal on some front.

Curious to hear your thoughts on this kind of thing vs the 3080s being sent out with the ability to boost further than they were just a few weeks later when driver revisions addressed the crashing by revising boost clock rules ultimately dropping performance when directly compared against drivers at launch. Or for that matter companies like apple specifically coding to make older devices slower as new devices come out. I guess its easier to get away with doing the same thing with software vs hardware in this case.

Wow.. that's like marketing a Ferrari and then dropping a sewing machine motor in it. Glad I've used nothing but Samsung for years.

commodity SSD products at the low end of the market use a range of parts depending on cost. The sector is very competitive with a lot of vendors.
Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition with the Corsair AX1600iWindows 11 on my ThinkVision 31.5 inch P32p-20 Monitor looks good.
