Google : Each hard drive requires one drive letter per partition, and there are 24 drive letters (C-Z) available. So, in theory, you can have up to 24 hard drives, if each one has only one partition.

A hard drive can have four primary partitions. One of them can be an extended partition that contains multiple logical partitions.

I used max 12-16 drives most of them was in raid
So not many letters used.
working good and fast with raidcard

I have moved the most drives to my AMD1950x so 12 HDD, 4SSD and 3x m.2 and a 63xx LSI raidcard working perfect !

Ideally if you need such large amounts of storage then I highly recommend a NAS drive.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

already had a NAS, it fried and had some drives from it, so that's why I just bought a RAID card and wanted to utilize them.

traded my Adaptec for an LSI and somewhat had the same issue with drives dissapearing but I was atleast able to get my main boot SSD to show up as boot device #1, so 12 is max allowable in BIOS, 2 SATA drives disappeared in BIOS but shows up in Drive Management, got all 16 drives working in W10P!  thanks  for suggesting to move RAID card to PCI-E 6!

I have a Crucial M4 as boot drive, Crucial M500 as gaming drive for primary games.  all the other drives vary from 5.4K / 7.2K / 10K / 15K depending on workload purposes.
