Hello!

After having a crashing problem with the addition of a second EVGA GTX 680 4GB, I had to remove the card and be content with only one. I thought of some crazy idea later so I installed the card again.

To the point:
When I use SLI, I keep the case open first to adjust the SLI bridge in case flickering happens then close the case. As I disconnected the bridge to reconnect it, the game still worked without flickering. I made sure SLI is working by playing the game with and without SLI disabled in the control panel and took note of the FPS. The boost and smoothness are there with SLI without the bridge.

Driver is old (391.01). What's going on here? Did I update to this driver after removing SLI and it removed the need for the bridge or am I using some settings or something?

#1 You shouldn't be adjusting the bridge with the system on.
#2 If your fps stays the same with sli enabled/disabled then the game isn't taking advantage of sli.

    #1 got it.
#2 as I said, SLI without the bridge did give me performance boost. Withcer 3 gave me ~40FPS with SLI disabled and ~75FPS with SLI enabled on the same scene.

And where did the flickering go? Isn't it suppose to happen if the bridge is not installed? Or did I just get it cuz the bridge was not installed firmly/correctly?

As I disabled SLI and wanted to re-enable it, the option became greyed out and a notification of using the connector showed up. It didn't go until I updated the drivers with a fresh reinstall.

I'm using the bridge now, case closed. SLI with the bridge gave +3FPS on Unigine Heaven. But never mind that really.

When you took the bridge off during the game I'm guessing sli continued to work normally as it was already enabled inside the nvidia control panel. Sli can communicate over the sli bridge & the pci-e bus.

I thought of it like that too. Interesting how I could disable and enable it several times before it finally showed the notification and decided to not allow it again.

I don't remember, but I think I only minimized NV CP in those tries but closed it before the last.

I couldn't get to that point. I've read that at some point the drivers allowed SLI without the bridge with lower performance on mid/high-range GPU's due to bandwidth and low-end cards didn't need it. Later it was set as a requirement. I guess this means the drivers are inherently capable of it until it sobers up. Drivers do get drunk from time to time.
