Hi, I submitted a support ticket but for visibility (and speeding up the time it takes for an answer) I'm going to post my problem here as well. I don't see anything regarding this online.

After ~6 months my SC15 does not charge anymore. It's plugged into the wall, the power brick is lit up, however the laptop does not display the charging LED. It was plugged in for hours attempting to charge and I can't get it to work no matter what I try (aside from opening the chassis - I'm not dumb enough to void my warranty right now).

As a disclaimer I am a software developer. I am given my own company computers at work, and at home I use the desktop I built myself. I have only used this laptop maybe 20 times over the past 6 months and it has been taken care of extremely well. For the past 3 weeks it's just been sitting in its padded case for safe keeping.

This is a $2,000 laptop so I am disappointed in EVGA and I would like this to be resolved while it's under warranty. I am curious if this is a widespread issue with EVGA laptops or if mine was just unlucky.

Thanks.

Opening up the laptop doesn't void its warranty, but there is probably not an easy quick fix to be found inside. Even if the battery was completely dead or disconnected, it should still turn on when plugged into the charger. So, I am guessing that there is either something wrong with your charger, something wrong with the laptop's charging port, something wrong with the motherboard, or the battery is so shot that some sort of protection is keeping the laptop from powering on in order to avoid causing a fire. Good luck with the RMA!

I checked the charger with a multimeter - the charger is supplying power fine. It's without a doubt a problem with the laptop.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully the RMA process is painless. I wonder how common of an issue this is with the product line.

I'm sure if it's a general problem, we would know. Maybe its just a fabric problem, exclusively for your device? It happens. But sorry to hear about your problem, it sucks

Pretty sure you need an RMA. Moving thread to the Warranty section so a Tech can assist in resolving your problem.

I have not - work has been keeping me busy so I've been procrastinating. I'm going to start the RMA process now.

Thanks Xray. I'm hesitant to send a $2,000 device through the postal service but I don't think I have many options here.

    I'm back with an update.

I filed for an RMA and shipped it via FedEx (shipping was $50! for a manufacturing error) and received no response from EVGA the entire time. I didn't realize they had it until UPS Quantum sent me an email regarding my package being shipped back. Did they fix my laptop? Did they refuse my RMA? Who knows! The return trip only took 3 days but I think EVGA could have handled it better.

I'm a little disappointed they reformatted both of my drives for a battery / motherboard repair but everything was backed up to my desktop and it's a good excuse to install LTSC 2019 for the OS. I'm still not sure what caused my battery issue or if it's even fixed - after setting up Windows I can see that the OS says the laptop is charging but I don't see any hardware indication like a LED. I can't remember if there was a charging light previously but I'm 60% sure there was. I will probably call them tomorrow to ask EVGA what happened, what repairs they performed, and how I can avoid this from happening again.

This was my first EVGA laptop I've purchased and it will likely be the last after seeing how this was handled. In summary it was "buy a $2,000 laptop -> have the $2,000 laptop stop working after 6 months while being left in pristine condition -> pay $50 to have it repaired -> not be told of any repairs performed or any information thereof."

I wonder how the Razer Blade series will be doing when I upgrade laptops in a few years or if the SC15 breaks again right after my warranty period ends. I'm not convinced this laptop will last.

    Last update.

I called EVGA to ask what happened and what repairs were performed - the internal battery was replaced and the representative said that if this happens again it may be worth resetting the CMOS via a small hole in the back panel of the laptop. Sometimes that fixes it apparently. I also confirmed that the EVGA SC15 does not have a charging indicator so my laptop has indeed been fixed properly.

Still not sure what caused this to happen but the representative was nice and my laptop is fixed. Just wish the overall RMA process kept me in the loop.
