I wouldnt expect new gaming cards from NVIDIA until Computex 2020 at the earliest.

if we use the specs from the OP - then the card only does a modest boost 50% at most with 50% less power use
 
800 more cuda cores is like 25%-30 more cores with 15-20% clock increase
 
 
if you add 2000 more cores to turing 2080 you get 70% boost with 20% boost clocks - ie the specs above
we be close to 100% boost over turing
 
 
as for the ram i expected that kind of increase - the hpc should like have 96GB HBM
so even if you cut it to 1/2 or 13 you could set 3080ti with 24-32GB of ram
 
1/2 of GA100 is 48GB and they dabbled with a 1/2 version of the full die(ga101) which they won't be going with
1/2 of that is 24GB
 
that will also mean no real price decreases because of the increase ram on the card
specially with dram prices going up
 
 
my suspicious feeling are that the Original story is about the midline cards not the high end
more 3070 or 3060 and not 3070ti or higher

meaning there may be a low power and high power version
 
want to move 3070 to high end and 16GB of ram
3080 to get 20GB
3080ti to get 24GB
 
maybe expect super and ti on all the mid and upper end
so high power mode and more core is still possible based off the original die

Just rumors at this point as Noted in the title ... nothing you can count on just like all the AMD rumors
 
Lets see the actual retail product ... tested by third parties ... not just click bait

jumping this 3000 gen.. usually jump 2 generations to really feel UPGRADED.... but hope the prices are DECENT this time...
either way for current gaming i feel i am fine

At the end of the day a good RTX 3080 will be about as powerful as a decent 2080 Ti and cost about $850-900.  I'm OK with that.

That's usually the norm unless something drastic happens.

To be honest, i dont doubt it. 4k is a norm now.

Also, its pretty useless to have lots of VRAM if you don't have a screen to fully utilize it so I think the whole lots of VRAM hype train needs to come down a bit.

Bring on the VRAM. Got my notification my phone about this rumor earlier today. I skipped the 2xxx series to wait for 3xxx series. So far these rumors look juicy, but again, they are just that... rumors.
 
So i'll take them with a grain of salt tbh. That said, I look forward to upgrade. :)

I still pop on every now and then, mostly to read this forum "Computer Industry News". Just don't comment as much as I used to.

How much VRAM do you really need at 1080p, 1440p and 4K?

The 1080 and 1070 had 8GB while their workstation equivalents had double.  Same for the 2080 and 2070.  Would not be surprised to see the 3080 move up to 10GB.  Memory prices are much lower now than when the 2080 first went into production.  The new titan card ($3000) will probably have something like 32GB and the 3080Ti ($1500 and up) will have 14GB.

Why? Because 4K gaming at 144hz+ on Displayport 2.0 and support of HDMI 2.2

Well I suppose we'll find out later this year either at Computex 2020 or E3 which is a week after Computex.
